Newb needs advice

First off New to the site, thanks for havin me. So far havent seen the nit pickin and bickering near bad as other big sites, thats nice!

Just got into reloadin and so far only done 45 acp with my dillon 650. Im wanting to do 223 and 308, mostly for use in full autos but some will be for 1/2 mile shootin in the bolt guns.

The question is, i will be using Mainly as in probably 70% Millitary brass, What all tools, gear do i need to get? I know i need a trimmer but what one is best, ecspecially for a volume shooter? plus all the other gear being the same, for volume.

almost forgot...

Get a Gauraud trimmer if you want the best. You'll also want a Dillon Swager, plus an RCBS Case prep center for deburr/champfer, flash hole, primer pockets and neck brushing. I would also get a good Single stage such as a Lee Classic cast, a Redding Big Boss or RCBS Rockchucker.

You can build on that.
 
I think any of the trimmers that you can use under power would be good. I forget which one, Lyman maybe, that you can remove the handle on the hand powered model and hook on an electric screwdriver. That alone would increase trimmed output by 3X or 4X.

I use a hand trimmer. Its a Forster Original. It does a great job and you can get an attachment for a drill/driver. Hand trimming is a little slow. I have the attachment for the drill but have not used it yet.

IMO The Forster is a great quality trimmer. I use it for 223 cases. If I could afford it I probably would have bought a power trimmer.

I still use the Forster hand trimmer, and it does a nice job. But... if I were to buy another one, it would definitely be powered. That cranking gets old real fast.
 
Another vote for the dillon super swage. My experience with trimmers is with an RCBS w/o motor. It works fine but is slow on 1000 case. For that many I have heard great things about the giraud. One friend has the dillon press mounted trimmer that works in one of the stations. He says it works great.
 
For 600 yard + ammo the “old fashion” way is pretty hard to beat for bench rest accuracy.


For everything else I use a 650 setup with a carbide size die at station 1 and a Dillon trimmer on station 4 then they go to a 1050 with a bullet feeder that performs all of the additional operations including primer pocket swaging. It’s not a cheap setup but if you’re trying to keep a $20,000 belt fed full auto from being hungry, your component cost will soon surpass equipment costs, and soon the speed is free. Wow!! Look at the price on that Giraud...:what:Think I'll stay with my RCBS Case Trimmer 2. Even if it is hand cranked.

Oh...That's whinning isn't it...:D
