I am looking for a bolt action rifle, chambered in 30-06, by an inexpensive manufacturer who makes a very decent product for a beginner. I like wood stalks and blued steel but they are not necessary. Thank you for your replies.

I think I have found one that might be feasible. The mossberg 4x4 bolt in synthetic stock is 450 retail but is it a good rifle?

Savage 110/111 all the way! They have been produced since I believe 1968 and are truly the best value in bolt actions rifles. If you do some searching you can still find them for under $200 for used models, or around $300 for a brand new one. The new ones will come with a synthetic tupperware stock, but that can be easily changed out.

The savage series of rifles has a distinction for being excellent/amazingly accurate straight from the box. Most people report right around 1 moa right from the box, although many out there got stock rifles that can do 1/2 moa. For such an inexpensive rifle that is fantastic.

Another great benefit of the savage rifles is that the barrels are easily changed by the user with some specific tools in about 10 minutes. 10 minutes and you change your whole caliber up and have in essence a whole new rifle.

The deals for used ones are definately out there. Check pawn shops and Gunbroker. I just bought this older 110e in 30-06 last week for $192. It came with the wood stock, and even included a nice El Paso Weaver variable scope (worth at least $75-100 in itself)

that is about 100 to 150 dollars too much for the mossy, you should be able to find that for around 300, and maybe just a bit more with the scope allready on it... but yest the mossy is quite nice, good features for a cheapy. also the others mentioned above are very good, and i also would not forget a Howa lightning, rifle package, with scope allready on, should be able to be had for around 400 or so; and Howa is really a repackaged Wetherby, which is very good.
