I am new to pistols, grew up with shotguns and rifles. All i can say is that i am in love.....again.... So, within the short time I have been shopping for pistols, i found a Kimber stainless target II in 10mm. I have read that the 10mm with full power loads can be hard on a gun. I would love to shoot full power loads, but not at the cost of a $1,000 gun. I do reload, thought about shooting low power at the range and reserving the high power abuse for hunting and home defense. Or is any of this worry necessary. I have read about replacing recoil springs and firing pin whatevers. I have no idea what any of this means.. Any aftermarket modifications that i could do, or any info about what i should do or if I even need to modify anything is greatly appreciated. I love to tinker and modify things, never really been satisfied with anything from the factory, so let it rip.. Is the gun designed to handle the full power of the 10mm?? Please tell me what I should do. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lee.

I guess any gun can be beaten to death by a steady diet of full house loads.
I do not own a 10mm so I don't know for certain but I would think for regular paper punching use the regular stuff and for HD keep some of the hot stuff on hand. I don't think you are gonna hurt it with using the hot stuff from time to time.

You should prowl the forums at 10mmtalk.com. Lots of guys there have the Kimber. Both my 10's are EAA Witness guns.

Were I buying a 1911 style 10mm, I would probably opt for a Dan Wesson in single stack, or an STI Edge in 40 with a 10mm barrel for dbl stack. But I would be offended if someone gave me the Kimber.
