I have a Weaver K9-B. This thing has AO. What is AO? how does it work? how do I use it? The front dial has 50ft, 75ft, 100ft 50yd, 100yd, 200yd, 1000yd settings. What do these settings do? Is there a manual /book I can read about this AO thing.

Scope is 3x-9xAO mounted on a Winchester M70 pre 64 30-06. Is this a good match up?

AO stands of Adjustable Objective.

What that means is you can set it at the distance you are shooting and it dials out parallax error.
It also allows you to focus at close range & high power, like the formentioned 50 feet.

So, what is Parallax you say?

See this about that:

If you don't want to mess with it all the time, just set it at 200 yards or so and forget it.
Unless you shoot at 50 feet, or 1,000 yards a lot?

Thanks for the info. I'm check on the link you gave me.

Is this a good scope for this 30-06?

I'm not at all sure what a Weaver K9-B scope is.
Are you sure it isn't a V9-B?

At any rate, a good 3x-9x variable is just about ideal for a 30-06.

If your Weaver is clear, and holds zero, there would be no good reason to buy something else.

Sorry It is V9-B, read it while it was in the dark safe. Sorry!

I have not used/fired this yet, I maybe using it for wild hogs? Friend has farm in upper FL with hog problems? I was told that 223 did not stop these hogs, I'm betting 30-06 will. I also just got a socom16 308, will need to find optics for that next, but, one matter at a time.

am I on the right track? going to the range Tues.

Yes, I think so.
If a 30-06 won't stop one, nothing else hit in the same place will either!

I don't know where you came by an old EL Paso Weaver V9, but you might want to go with a more current model scope for the next one.

Weaver in El Paso closed the doors in 1984, so that V9 ain't no spring chicken!

Old Friend sold/kind of gave me this Winchester M70 pre 1964 with this V9-B. He is not around anymore so I can't talk to him about this thing. He used it for 40+ years. I just have never used it.

Scope is in good shape, everything works and is very clear. I know the rifle has shot many deer, elk over the years with this scope. I just don't know how to use the scope correctly, but I will learn!! Starts Tues

Check the zero at 100 yards off a bench & sandbags.

You want it sighted in about 1 3/4" high at 100, which will put you very close to zero at 200.

That way, you can hold dead on a hog anywhere from bad breath distance to 250+ without worrying about holding over.

Is this weaver V9-B a poor scope? Ray was a pretty sharp old bird on this stuff, but he was set in his ways. He could make just about anything work. should I be looking around for something else. will know more after Tues.

What I said in post #4.

If your Weaver is clear, and holds zero, there would be no good reason to buy something else.

I don't know how else to say it!

Well O.K., how bout this!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

You need to go shoot the dang thing and see.
