So I get an out of the blue email from an old co-worker that has been offsite for a couple of years. I haven't talked to him in since he transferred but in his email he tells me he's moving and doesn't want to take some old guns he had sitting in his basement. He says "if you want them I'll bring them to you or you can come to my place to take a look at them." Of course I tell him I'm interested and offer to drive to his place to take a look. I show up and he hands me a wooden crate full of ammo, targets, cleaning kits, manuals etc, then opens the rear door of his minivan and shows me the open actions of the firearms. I look them over and ask how much he wants for them, and he tells me "nothing, just take them. I'm moving, don't have a safe, don't plan on buying one or using them so rather than let them rust away I figure you'll take care of them." All 100% functional..

I really couldn't believe my luck and figured I'd share my good fortune this weekend.

Karma buddy, you must have done a random good deed to someone else. Like that movie with that little kid who sees dead people, and he helps a hobo in Vegas, and his mom is dating a burned teacher. Whats that movie called again???

Wow. Pass them on someday in the same way. That former coworker \ friend really needs a formal thank you sent; (even its not particularly manly).

I haven't had it happen with guns, but I have gotten a motorcycle, a sailboat, and a couple grand in parts/rigging/etc for the boat for less than $1200 for all of it. I figured it was for all my good deeds in college. Haven't had that kind of luck since, but I haven't had much time for good deeds lately. I better get back to my boy-scoutin'

He must feel that you have been a very good friend to him and wanted to reward you. You are a very lucky person, they are some nice toys.

Yes, the Higgins 31 and the Marlin 101 both are.

None are for sale though, he told me a couple were his father's, brother's, and I believe the 410 was his grandfather's so I would feel really bad about selling them just to make a few dollars. I offered him cash but he refused, if he just wanted money for them he could have put an ad in the paper, taken them to a shop or something but I guess he just wanted someone to take care of and enjoy them.
