My buddy has two old guns from his late father-in-law. They've barely been used. He wants to sell them and asked me what to list them for. Here they are:

Savage lever action rifle, model 99C. .308 caliber.

Remington, semi-auto, 20 gauge shotgun, model 11-48.

Any ideas as to how much he ought to sell them for? Thanks in advance.

11-48 is about as cheap of a decent autoloader as you will ever find. I bought one in quite nice condition for 180 last year, but that was 12 ga. 20 ga would be only slightly more, so 200 or 225 depending upon condition.

The savage 99 is also a great gun, but I would not know where to price it.

I would suggest your Buddy re-think selling that Sav 99.

If he knew more about it I`d bet that would be the last thing he`d sell.

On the other hand, somebody who does know, will snatch that puppy up in a
heart beat!

With out knowing the condition of the "99" it`s next to impossible to place an
accurate value. Most you`d get is a spread. From this to that.

Below are links to those models into Gunbroker dot com and you can see what the same long guns in same condition are selling for. If you have an account, you can see completed auction prices. You have to be logged in.
I would not sell a model 99 either unless it is beat to a pulp. It's a classic.

Remington

Savage

the savage is worth something for sure, don't sell it lightly. tell your bud to hold onto that one unless he needs the money bad, it will eventually be a super rare antique.

As others have said, tell your friend not to sell the Savage unless he really needs to. If he must sell, and it is in excellent condition, he should be able to get $600 or more for it. If I had to sell a gun like that, I'd use Gunbroker and let the market determine the final price.

Ditto on the model 99, however the model 58 Remington in 20ga. is actually a keeper also in my book. I've seen them go at my LGS for as much as $500 in fairly good condition, if engraved I would think much higher.

Read the OP again, it's an 11-48. Good guns, but they are recoil operated (kick like a mule) and parts are scarce. I would think $250-300 on the shotgun.

I've got a 48 Sportsman, same gun in most respects as the 11-48. I don't find the recoil to be that bad. I got mine for $250 at an LGS a year and a half ago, an LGS that usually prices about 10-15% high.

Would love a 20 ga. 11-48 to go with my 16 gauge, but would,'t pay over $250 for it and that if it's as described.
