I do feel you should ask me legitimate questions instead of accusing me. I did research the article and this fact has been clarified in the print edition, which was published a full three weeks ago. A shot from the original Soviet model could reach a range of 1,500 meter, though I’m sure it wouldn’t be accurate that far. My apologies for the misconstrued editing.
> were the cops really there to investigate a crime, or were they simply customers?
Yes, the cops were there to investigate a suspicious purchase. A young female came into the store earlier in the week, knowing nothing about guns, while two younger males waited in the car, and yet she knew exactly what she wanted. The gun shop owner felt uncomfortable with the purchase and asked them to come back later so she could think about it. I could not print, nor tell you, who alerted the ATF because family members and gang members have been known to retaliate on tattle tales, but the officers were there when the female came back, which is when I pulled up in the parking lot. When the story printed, the investigation into the straw purchase was still underway.
> are you implying by the article that ak-style weapons are too dangerous for private citizens?
No, my intention was to tell our readers this is a legal gun to buy. For gun owners and those in the gun community, this is obvious. For the general public, it is not and many of my readers have been surprised.
> what do you intend to do with it now?
I sold it back to the store, where it hangs on the wall with my autograph, “The Outlaw Josie Roberts,†next to my article.
> i … salute you for at least some measure of humility.
Thank you.
