I would love to be able to walk into a gun shop and buy a brand-new Colt DS or Cobra. But I can't.

Unfortunately, that's true. So look for a good used one-they're still out there. No infernal locks and six shots to boot.

Revolver, older Smith M37 or M38. Clip the M37 hammer if you're concerned about snagging. Near new examples available for $400 or less. Excellent revolvers, light, reliable, powerful, accurate, and available.

Autos, LCR or Kel-Tec for ultimate in light, flat, easy carry. The KT .32 weighs under 7oz empty. If you're like most of us real people, you'll have it with you when you'd have left anything else home.

If you choose anything larger or heavier, sooner or later you'll begin leaving home without it because it's simply overkill - too big, too heavy, too obvious.

i carry a sp 101 in my jeans pocket . use a inside waistband holster with the clip removed to break up the printing lines. Also has a crimson trace. I treid one of the fabric things. made little no difference. A loaded sp101 would surely be double the weight of a j frame at 13 oz unloaded. Dont mind the weight at all.

It never leaves my pocket, in the house or out of the house. Tried most of the j frames and just not happy with how they are put together. To much clyinder shake in every smith i have picked up

I reload so the extra strength of the ruger is nice to have. Misread my electronic scale and cracked a S&W cylinder. Had about 50% to much powder. School of dumb and dumber.

Never owned an SP101, but a guy I worked with did. I hefted it in one hand and a Colt DS in the other, and thought they seemed about equal. Of course, mine held six rounds and his only five, both in .38 spl.
That said, I always carried Colts and Smiths, sometimes together. (Back before speed loaders were ubiquitous.) I love 'em both, mostly in the alloy versions.
It's frowned upon now, probably for good reason, but way back when, we carried revolvers with rubber bands around the grip to keep them in our waistbands. Excellent concealment, but not very modern, I know. It makes the weight issue irrelevant in the small frame guns.
Hard to beat an older Colt or Smith, in my opinion.
By the way, some newer revolver shooters may not realize that speedloaders for a Smith K frame will fit a Colt D frame. One reason my on duty backup was a Cobra.

I also prefer the Ruger SP101 and pocket carry if just fine.

In my opiniion , what is right for pocket carry ,depends on a persons weight, height, waist size, and type of clothing. Beach wear, Sunday go to meeting clothes, requre decisions for which to carry. Suspenders or just a belt. Many factors to consider when decidign what weapon to carry. Having only one weapon for pocket carry can be a pain.

I also prefer the Ruger SP101 and pocket carry it just fine. For my size, I can reach in my pocket and find my ruger better than that kel tec toy.

Juat now have a Ruger SP101, Colt Agent, S&W 36-1 J frame and a Seecamp 32 . The kel tec P3AT is on consignment. Could not get used to the reset on the trigger.

If i could only have one I would chose the SP101

My favorite is the Model 37-2 that was released a couple of years ago and now likely all but impossible to find. Built on the older "pre-magnum" frame, with no lock or MIM parts, mine are (I bought a couple of them) bobbed hammer versions. IMO, probably not the best choice for shooting some of today's hotter +P loads but very well built and loaded with quality standard pressure loads like Nyclads and others, a lot better than a poke in the eye or a mini-380, IMO. Weight around 13 ounces or so.
