Time for a New .38...Any Suggestions?

I also have the Ruger LCR (2" version) in .38 Special and love the weight of it and the ability to front pocket carry it anywhere. In looking at the 3" version in this post, I think I'm going to have to take a close look at one of them to see how they would fit in my pocket. I hand-load and I have a load for the LCR that I use just for practice (3.8 grains of Unique under Hornady's 158 grain SWC). I advocate a lot of practice to anyone carrying one of these short barreled weapon.

Thank you for the ideas.
I like the shot barrels.
I have SP101, GP100's and 686's.
I find the short barrel revolvers accurate and fun.
My SP101 will do under 3 inch groups standing, unsupported at 25 yrds.

I have been on a 38 kick lately.
I will look at the model 12.
I think I will stick with the revolvers for now and maybe add a Bond Arms Derringer later.

Edmo01, really like your buck knife. I looked for it on The Buck site but could not find it. Can you tell me the model # or some way I could ID it.

edmo1...an awesome trail gun! They just keep gettin' better. DANG, but I would like one of those in .357 magnum, but I don't hike much anymore. But, an adjustable sight, 3 or 4" polymer .357 is just ideal for the job. And, yeah, around here, I'd probably just carry .38s in it. :D

My 3" guns are Taurus M66 circa late 80s and Rossi M68 circa 1981. Both are great shooters and didn't break the bank when they were bought. I think I gave 100 1981 dollars for that Rossi. LOL It's a good kit/trail gun and I've carried it for that, light and quite accurate while all steel. The 3" 66 is a sometimes belt CCW. I have a few 2" snubs, too.

I'm not bashing Ruger.
I've been a very satisfied Ruger customer for almost 40 years.

The OP asked about the Ruger LCRx's. I've never owned the X model LCR but I have owned a 38 +P LCR and ended up with a couple of the brand new 357 KLCR's that were both defective and unrepairable.

I hated the 38 LCR I had and sold it.

Stupid me got a wild hair about a year and a half later and decided I wanted the 357 KLCR.
I got the first 357 KLCR (7/14), I had it maybe a few days when it went back to Ruger. The cylinder crane assembly was so loose it was hitting the cylinder frame window removing the bluing /blackening when I opened or closed the cylinder. I'd have to put upward pressure closing it so it would clear the cylinder frame window.
Ruger sent me a shipping label and off it went. When Ruger got it then actually looked @ it a day or so later I was notified that it was unrepairable.
They replaced it and I if I remember right it took 6 weeks getting the replacement. They were in no hurry swapping them out.
The replacement finally got to my dealer. I checked it before accepting it. I wasn't real happy with it although it was better then the one they were replacing. I wanted it for a pocket gun.

Something just didn't feel right.

Since it was an exchange from Ruger I went ahead and took it. If I was actually buying it I wouldn't have and would have walked away from it the way it was. Famous last words Ruger will make it right.

I guess it was about a week later this 2nd defective one went back. It was doing the same thing as the first one hitting the cylinder frame window plus this one had another problem. I took it to the range to run it through it's paces, when I found that in about 250 rounds the trigger didn't reset several times. Not something I can accept in a carry gun.

That was enough for me and the LCR's. When UPS picked the 2nd one up I had put a note in the box and emailed the CS rep I was dealing with. I asked if they'd replace it with a SP101 instead of a 3rd LCR. I told them I'd gladly pay the difference in price of the 2 different models. They were decent enough and did it as an even exchange for the SP.

I used to hang around the Ruger forums quite often particularly the one and I'm not the first one that has had serious problems with the LCR's. I bought the first 357 KLCR towards the end of July 2014 so it wasn't like it was a a early model.
All I will say is.... You've been warned. The LCR's like a Taurus I wouldn't own another one even on a bet.
