Ok for all for you NFA guys question do you think a competition like 3 gun or some other gun game would be 1.Fun using SBS,SBR'S, Suppressors and the like? 2. could you draw enough interest in it to keep it viable 3. if two is possible would you set divisions?

Any thoughts ideas suggestions tips or comments are appreciated

I've used a suppressed SBR for <deleted> and giggles in a 3-gun match and I've seen someone else use a SBR, but I doubt there is enough interest to create a separate division. It is quite fun, but you also have to be careful how effective your suppressor is if you use one as the timer may not pick up the report. It is most likely the timer will register the report, but it will be necessary to check and confirm.

I think there is enough interest to create a separate division. More NFA items (SBRs, SBSs, suppressors, machineguns, etc.) are bought, sold, transferred than what you would think and the popularity is only increasing as more and more companies are producing suppressors. When we wait a year for our tax stamps to come back approved, part of it is the BATFE being lazy and the other part is that there are thousands and thousands and thousands of applications being submitted each day. It would be nice to only have to fill out one application and get approval once. For subsequent applications, it should be as simple as approval upon payment of the tax. Actually, I wish they'd just do away with all the tax stamp nonsense and sell NFA products just like they were anything else in the store, but I know that's merely wishful thinking.

It's taking about 3 months now, and it's even faster if you're E-filing a Form 1.

I believe the majority of paper forms are still taking 6+ months and as for e-file I am two months into an SBR at the moment. Just my 2 cents.

I know lots of guys who use SBRs and suppressors in 3-gun and multi-gun matches. It's very common. No reason I could imagine to put them in some special division. What would be the point?

There used to be two gun matches near us.
Sub guns and handguns.
Generally 15-20 plus participants.
The matches were really sub gun only.
The handguns were more of a backup to the rifles, if-when they quit working.
I used to go with a friend who did them, just to watch and do the accompanying pistol matches.
There would probably have to be some way to determine if those showing up are qualified to use a full auto under match conditions.
If you're asking about semi-autos with short barrels, like Sam sez, what's the point.
Might just as well use a regular length rifle, like everyone else.
No real need for special matches or catagories to complicate things.

All I can tell you is that at the shop where I work here in WA it's taking about 3 months, and the longest I've seen a Form 4 take recently is about 4 months, and that was unusually long. We haven't seen one take 6 months since the middle of last year.

Good to know :)

That would be awesome if those short wait times become common everywhere! It sucks when you buy a suppressor and by the time it arrives, it's already outdated.

I'd say the only reason to create a special class would be for suppressors since the muzzle device rule makes anything longer than 3 inches and wider than 1 inch an "open" class firearm. Even then, I don't really see a need to create a different class...especially for club matches that are just for fun.

Simply "run what ya brung" and have fun with it. That's what I did.
