Obviously this thread is written with keeping it all legal in mind, in no way would I want illegal rounds or devices. I have a legitimate NFA trust for all items I will obtain.

In WA, destructive devices are good to go, right? Like the M203? They can be bought just like a suppressor would, right?

What about 40mm ammo? The ones that go boom? Are those legitimate destructive devices too? Beehives (the 40 .22lr) are full auto, but not flechettes, right?

I suspect the same is true for 20mm rifles? I know we can get the rifle, and there is ammo that use standard design bullets, but what about the cannon ammo? The stuff that goes boom?

I just got my NFA trust and I mainly got it for suppressors and AOW's (and ones I plan on making, like a suppressed umbrella repeater among others!). But I'd like to know exactly what can and can't be had in WA. I know we can't have SBS, SBR, full auto, but DD, AOW, and suppressors are good to go. However, I understand there are some caveats to the destructive devices? I need some info here.

You know, everyone gets their kicks in different ways. Since we can't have full auto here, having a rifle capable of mile long shots with the ability to fire legal explosive rounds would be fill in the gap for me.

Yeah, that is what I'm talking about. What is the legality of that in WA state in particular? Does anyone here own an M203 or M79 and shells here in WA that can shed light on the issue? If so, how much are they, the shells I mean? The LMT launchers can be had for around $1400.

See, I recall hearing that some DD's here are a go and some are a no-go. Need more insight regarding WA state in general.

Destructive devices aren't defined in WA law that I can find.

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.41.220 but it looks like the parts of a legal AOW shotgun could be illegal under state law. Hunh...that is messed up.

It looks like things that go boom are verboten.

Thanks for stating the law, but see, that is what I'm talking about. In WA, the law as written is the law applied --none of this "interpretation" nonsense. So since DD's are not prohibited or mentioned, they are legal. But the thing about explosive rounds... That is not so clear. So I can't use them indoors or bother others with them. I didn't intend to in the first place. What I need to know is if they are legal to use in this state.

If they are, I can likely find a suitable place to safely use a few. Since the M203 would mostly be a toy anyway, the rounds I'd use the most would be the orange chalk. You have no idea how much fun those can be until you've shot a case or so. I'm sure the HEDP rounds would be more fun, but I bet they cost an arm and a leg. If the explosive itself isn't illegal to use as long as it is used properly and safely, and the DD isn't state regulated, then it would seem that the DD launcher and the DD rounds would both be okay.

Any Washingtonians here that own an M203 care to step in?

I made a phone call. Grenades and such are illegal. Sorry.

You would need a Washington state explosives license to even posses them and there is a list of "acceptable" uses for explosives. Fun is not one of them.

Yeah, I like the flechette and marker ammo, that stuff is fun. And if I got one, that would be 99% of what I would fire in it, the marker stuff I mean. They were a lot of fun in the army, I always liked shooting them. They really are more fun since you can shoot closer targets and watch them hit.

But if I go through the whole NFA procedure and get one, I'd want to be able to at least blow off a few HEDP or it wouldn't be worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for making the phone call Sam, I'd have done it but I know that half the time when you call about something around here you are apt to get the person answering the phone's opinion. Since the law is ambiguous, I was hoping for someone that actually had one here in this state and has dealt with the question personally. See, you can call and ask if suppressors are illegal and still get a "yes" (even though they never really were...). Some cops think they can harass citizens over open carry, because it isn't common, it must be illegal... I know a 203 isn't common, and I bet that if it is legal there would be some hoops to jump through, and I bet further that not one individual in state government knows what they are. That is why I need info from someone with a DD here.

Some of the gun show stuff you see, the markers and what not are for the 37mm. I'm not interested in that either. If I got an M203, it would be a real one and it would be for ideally firing HE. Legally.

Basically, I either need the quote for the state law that is clear and unambiguous or someone on here that has one in this state that knows the deal.
