NIB older generation DA only .40s

CDNN has S&W model 4046, which is double action only, .40 cal., and all steel. They have both used and "unissued". I think these are the last of the steel pistols before polymers became all the rage.

Anyone know what the triggers are like on these? Is it like a revolver free of "stacking"? Or is it like some DA polymers with trigger stacking?

These are heavy, so they should soak up recoil well. I don't know if they were beefed up enough to provide longevity for the .40 cartridge.

I don't own a 4046, But my 3rd gen S&W 411 has a long, but smooth, DA pull. There's very little (if any) stacking.

That said, I prefer the DA/SA variants (like a 411 or 4006) because I like the shorter SA trigger, YRMV.

I have a used 4046TSW, not sure if they are the same, that has a long smooth trigger pull. My one dislike is that without a mag it is useless, it has a magazine disconnect.

While I tend to prefer the TDA (DA/SA) models, the original DAO S&W's had some nicely short and smooth DA triggers.

The later production TSW new-style DAO's use different parts (recognized by being MIM), and their design resulted in a longer trigger stroke because the hammer wasn't "located" (positioned after cycling of the slide) as far to the rear as in the older DAO design. The new style DAO hammer has to be moved farther during the trigger stroke before being released to fall.

The older DAO machined steel & MIM parts CANNOT be mixed, as their different designs will not work together.

Service life can vary due to ammunition, maintenance & service.

The newer TSW's incorporate a number of revisions and refinements that ought to help provide for a longer service life than the older 3rd gen guns.

Ah, not sure about that, my DA/SA has some travel, but it sounds like some of the original DAO models may not have as much travel. I guess it'll depend on which version you get. I've never heard of stacking problem with any of the S&W semi's.

Any idea how many lbs the trigger pull is?

It may be possible to disconnect the magazine disconnect.

Not sure what # pull it is. It was a police trade in, so would venture to say stock weight.
