A local gun shop has got at S&W 342 (Alum/Titanium Airlite in .38+P) on clearance for $400 plus tax. Is this a good deal? It would probably be about $435 out the door for me.

If I ended up wanting to sell it, what would it go for used? Anyone have a blue book and willing to look it up?

Appreciate your advice!

I would call that a good price. The gun has been discontinued by S&W. That does not make it any less desirable in my book. I carry one just about every day. I paid $479 for mine when they first came on the market, and that price was probably $100 under the going rate.

S&W now sells only the 340 and 340 PD versions that are .357 magnums. I have confidence in the .38+P, so I am happy with my 342.

YES

Yes its a good price. I bought my 342PD earlier this year and paid $450 brand new, so $400 is good. They are discontinued, but they are actually lighter than the new models. Only downside is they don't shoot .357, but I doubt you want to shoot .357 out of this gun.

Considering the prices I have seen on new and used S&W's, I think that is a good price.

FWIW my 342 has become my everywhere gun. It fits in my front pocket and lays pretty flat in the type of pants I wear. I carry a Bianchi strip with six rounds for a reload. I use Federal 110 gr Hydra-shoks (standard loads - not Plus P) and they seem to shoot well for me.

I vote for you getting it.

Woohoo !!
Not to gloat tooo much, but I just bought a NIB 642 for $388 today - I
think this was also a good deal. The 342 price for $400 is also good - I
just stumbled onto a heckofa bargain, I think.

Now, to start working on finding the best carry load for this little beasty..
