Nickel Finished 1911

Greetings all,

I recently posted in the buy/sell section my desire to buy a set of twin .45acp or .38 super 1911. Every firearm forum I have ever visited has many members who write them off as pimp or bling guns and I have seen many go so far as to say that a serious firearm enthusiast would never purchase such a hideous creature. With so many 'serious' shooters having aversions to blinged out guns, I figured that it would be easy for me to find two shiny 1911's. Not so. I never thought that they were an endangered species, but apparently someone somewhere is stock piling them because every site I have visited is out of stock.:fire: Does anyone know where I can find a pair? Or if anyone is interested in selling me one (or two) pm me. Does anyone else hate these pimp guns? Why or why not? I'll tell you one thing I don't like to see on a 1911: skeletonized hammers :barf::)
 
i dont know about everyone else, but i happen to like the "pimp" and "cartel" guns.....they are like the soap operas of firearms, they are flashy, dramatic, and over the top.....

done right, the engraving, the flash, and the artwork can look quite nice.
 
I agree. I have seen these soap opera guns so beautiful and well engraved that it would be a shame to shoot them unless one's life depended on it of course
 
All other things being equal, I'll take nickel plated or polished stainless over blued any day. Now when it comes to the gold plated triggers, hammers, safeties, and such. I'll pass.
 
I bought a Citadel in 38 Super and it's a looker. Not enough rounds through it to carry, but the 38 Supers I carry are a bright stainless Para and brushed stainless Colt.

I like nickel and also have a M29/6.5" that's really a looker. :)

One of the benefits of nickel is under the hot Arizona sun, the nickel reflects sunlight and doesn't get hot like the darker finishes.
 
Rock Island Armory has quite a few nickled/chrome guns in a matte or shiney finish, they are very plain, no engraveing and always made me think of the 1930's and old detective novels. Very old school cool.
 
RIA 1911s are very nice indeed. I own one and it looks great with a pair of Hogue grips.

I'll pass on the nickel. Give me blued, polycoated, or even stainless and I'm good. As far as engraved is concerned, I've seen very few engraved pistols that I have liked.
 
That citadel is certainly a beauty and not gaudy at all. I have been trying to find two Rock Island 1911's like the one pictured but they are never in stock in the nickel finish. does anyone have any idea how I can find some

You're right when you say that there doesn't seem to be any new nickel plated M1911s in stock at this time. I would say keep looking as with so many companies offering them (like Armscor, ATI, Citadel, RIA), you're bound to find something eventually. Keep checking with Buds online (add them to your wish list?), and maybe try some of the online sites, like gunbroker and gunsamerica, as a possibilty for finding them.
 
bannockburn: Thank you. I have added several to my wish list on Budsgunshop. I even checked with Cimarron Arms. They are out to at this time. Maybe everyone is buying these as a Christmas gun?
 
Well the RIA, Citadel, and ATI are all relatively affordable, especially in nickel or chrome. For anyone looking for that kind of finish those guns would be the way to go.
 
I own, what some would refer to, as an "El Jeffe de Jeffe" pistol. It's a Springfield 1911A1, nickel, .38 Super. Shoots like a dream. The double diamond stocks have been replaced by a set of black buffalo horns.

If you want bright and shiney get a stainless steel pistol.
It will be much easier to polish the inevitable scratches and the finish won't flake off with use.
 
yeah im thinking of buying stainless steet and having it polished professionaly to a mirror finish. anyone have any advice or feedback on this process? Im trying my best to find someone in the hampton roads area of virginia to do it as opposed to sendin my pistols somewhere
 
squarles67 all three of those are beauties. If i were to send a gun to colt custom shop do you think they would refinish it even if it not a colt firearm?

I don't know if they would, you'd have to call them and ask.

The one above is a model O2071ELC2, it says Colt Custom on the side but it's a stocked model in 38 Super
 
I had a cop friend in the early 1980's that off duty carried a Colt Commander Nickel 1911 with stag grips. I think that's the prettiest gun I ever saw. Had the fire blued screws and hammer.
 
I long ago decided that the only way I would ever own a .38 Super is if had a bright nickel finish and white mother-of-toilet-seat grips. I have since added black water buffalo horn grips to the options list, and will accept bright stainless as well, but to me, a .38 Super just BEGS for a "contrabandista" makeover. There's some nice iron in this thread!
 
yes indeed!!! all of these pics are making me green with envy. the engraving on that pistol is nothing short of heavenly imho. i think I will have to buy two stainless steels and have Bobs Gun Shop polish them to a mirror luster. i am a seafarer and this is my treat to myself when i finally come ashore for a spell after months at sea. I have even ordered custom grips with a jolly roger wearing a tricorne on them
