This one from my friend, Ken Dobbs at the Nashville Fairgrounds show yesteday. Ken's offerings are always of such quality that I describe them as "museum grade" pieces. It's a Detroit Police Dept. 10-7 and it is flawless; so tight the crane must be "encouraged" to open. I'm not sure this revolver was ever even issued.

The Detroit guns were 5" models.

All officers from the chief to the desk sergeant get issued a service weapon but some administrators or detectives leave then in their lockers until sold as surplus. In 1989 I bought a nickel 5" M27-2 stamped for the Florida Highway Patrol in 1977 and it arrived in unfired condition.

Dale,
5" indeed. It lives beside it's blue 5" brother in the safe. Thanks. all!

PS, I'm waaaaaaay ahead on the 38 loads already!

Here's the blue twin, but it's a dash 5.

I inherited a blue one also-I truly hate the way it feels in my hand. Maybe new grips would help.
I keep it because I remember that it was the favorite pistol of the great Ed McGivern

Alas, I gave my beautiful old model 10 to my father-in-law, who admired it extravagantly. He shortly thereafter gave it to his dip$hit son. I have been kicking myself for my unwonted generosity ever since.

You can learn to shoot the revolver with the standard grips. The M-10 just doesn't look right with replacements.

A couple of fine looking Model 10's there, though I must say I would slightly favor the blued one to the nickel. I guess to me, the Model 10 just looks right in blue.

BB,
I agree the blue ones just look "right". I have, however, developed a certain fondness for the nickle flavor in many examples of my collection. The sight of my 4" m-57 nickle, for instance, will "sho-nuff knock a strong man to his knees"

Att: MM My Friend-

I have a 2" factory nickel S&W model 10-5, in 'bout 90% NRA condition
that I bought from an individual for $162.50 (Yes- he wanted me to
half the taxes with him) OTD. Its probably some old widow ladys
night stand gun; as it locks up tight, and has NO end shake. I
keep it in the safe, just in case the DEMONS win the '08 election.

Also, I know where there is a pristine 4" nickel S&W 10-5 in 'bout
98%+ condition; that I can get for a mere $200. When I looked
up the weapons S/N; it was made between 1963-1965, and even
has perfect square butt wood S&W grips with the diamond
cut around the screw holes. If its still available, I might pick it up
this week~? :uhoh: ;) :D

ALA,
Grab those thrifty treasures, money in the bank, my friend! Moon- give me a coupla days to reset my lights, the living room is configured for, ah, "living" just now!

Moon,
My distinct pleasure, Sir!
I wonder if the # reflects inventory or a possible badge # of the officer to whom the weapon was issued. It is so clean and tight that I doubt it was ever actually issued, or, if so, used.

You Rascal :D

I saw a 95%+ 2" nickle 10-5 today, but it was $359. Still reasonable though I would think. :)

I have never shot this Model 10-5. It's not pristine, but it is nice. :)

S&W Model 10-5

Att: MM and Walkalong

Well, I went ahead and picked it up on Thursday (10 April); its sooooooo
sweet. I will post pic's first chance I have~! S/N is C737xxx, which puts
it manufactuered between 1963-1965; those years were filled of fond
memories gone by, so this relic serves as a reminder too those days.
BTW, I don't think this is a former "police gun" of duty status; as there
are no markings too indicate such~! :scrutiny: ;)
