You may call it that. I call it irresponsible.
So I suppose you are in favor of universal background checks?
I ask because giving your son or daughter a gun for Christmas means a background check before they take possession. Not to do so would be irresponsible.
It means you cannot sell or give a firearm to your best friend. Not to do so would be irresponsible.
Your neighbor? Not to do so would be irresponsible.
Or YOUR SPOUSE? Not to do so would be irresponsible.
I'm sorry daniel craig, but your views on gun control are exactly the same as the actor Daniel Craig, the same as the Brady Campaign, the same as Moms Demand Action, the same as Mike Bloomberg. All of whom believe guns are fine for themselves, but not for the unwashed masses.
The Form 4473/NICS requirement does a fantastic job of keeping prohibited persons from getting a gun via a licensed dealer...........but it and you fail to understand how it has little impact on a prohibited person getting a gun. Quite simply, they send a friend or relative to the store to buy it for them. So much for the Brady Law huh?
That’s the last I’ll say because it’s entirely besides the point.
No, it's EXACTLY the point. It's already a violation of federal law for a prohibited person to merely attempt to buy a firearm. Just by signing the Form 4473 a criminal commits a violation of Federal law.
Just by holding a firearm in his hands a prohibited person commits a violation of federal law.
By completing and signing the Form 4473 a prohibited person commits a violation of federal law.
The POINT is that’s sometimes it’s takes a while to get an approval, it’s not abnormal and requires patience.
In your giddiness to proclaim IRRESPONSIBLE! IRRESPONSIBLE! you still can't wrap your noggin around the fact that a large number of "delayed" transactions NEVER get get "approval" (your words).
Simply by having a common name or a name similar to that of a prohibited person results in a delay. And in my experience over the last twelve years with 12,000+ FBI NICS checks.....almost half ARE NEVER UPDATED to "proceed" within the three business days. That's NEVER EVER. You would be happy that a buyer not be able to receive a firearm from a licensed dealer? Do you have some idea how often "delays" occur?
Abiding by federal law is what a licensed dealer commits to when his FFL is issued. If Congress had intended for the Brady Law to grant "approval".......it would have included that into the law. They didn't.
I take it you've never had a NICS check be delayed? Maybe you would sing a different song if you had.
TL/DR version......shame on you.
