muzzle flash can be blinding to human NV...
distance of the flash from the eye, aswell as intensity of the flash and color spectrum of the flash, are the strongest determining factors.
many "defence" loads expose a more yellow/orange flash and cause less effect to the eye's adjustment.
Whiter flashes WILL have more effect. (tho our eye actually reads the blue light that is seen as white, versus red for more yellow flashes).
I definetly shoot every weapon I own in the dark, many times, even multiple target training (mtt/mtc) mostly with pistols tho.
fortunately I life in a verry rural area, my nearest neighbor is a mile away, and I can do all kinds of unconventional testing that I think should be routine for everybody serious about defence.
powder used is JUST as impacting as barrel length and Cal.
