Hey all,

New member here.

I am in the process of purchasing a Weatherby Vanguard Accuguard in .270 Win and I am trying to get some feedback for scope selection. I have only really had experience with Leupold optics and I think I am going to try to see what else is out there for this particular setup.

Hunting Range: 100-300 yds, occasional 400 yd shot
Hunting Game: primarily predators, pigs/hogs, sheep/ram, and deer
Hunting Area: mainly West and South Texas; open terrain for the most part

Right now I feel like I am pretty set on the Nightforce SHV 3-10x42mm, but I can't find many user reviews on the scope. I was wondering if anybody had any first had experience with this scope, specifically the magnification and reticle selection. For my hunting range, I think the 3-10x will be more than sufficient and i also think i can go with the more simplistic IHR reticle (as opposed to the MOAR, since I do not see the need for the precision of the MOAR for my hunting range).

Sorry for the long post, any feedback will be much appreciated. I could always throw a VX-3 on there for $300 less, so I'm really trying to get a feel for the SHV or anything anyone else might recommend. THANKS!

I think I'd go MOAR. With capped turrets you aren't going to be dialing. So, the MOAR gives you quick and precise hold offs for wind and range as opposed to guessing. You are going to be shooting in open terrain out to 400 so you'll need it on the longer shots.

If you were shooting 1-200 max then the other reticle would make sense IMO. Sorry, no experience with this scope, but it looks like a great choice for your application.

I was thinking the same thing Strambo. I had never heard of this scope until this post, so I did some research on it. The only negative review I found on it was on Optics Planet. The user only gave it three stars. Not for the scope but the MOAR reticle. He complained that the NON-Illuminated MOAR was not useable in dim light. Like you, I have no expeirience with this scope, but thought the one review might be worth passing on.

im going to be placing one of these on a trusty ol' .250 savage shortly. i think its gotta be one of the best value hunting scopes their are. My NXS glass is superb and i trust nightforce to make quality scopes.
