Looking back now, how do you think you did? That’s a tough call. Both are near top of the line for their respective genre of firearm.

Good question! I think I did alright as I was really only buying the Dan Wesson (it was used and missing a few items but nothing major), to help out a friend of a friend. At the time I wasn't all that familiar with the Dan Wesson design having way more experience with Colt, Ruger, and S&W revolvers. And then I got more into semi-autos so away went the Dan Wesson and enter the Gold Cup. I enjoyed target shooting with the Gold Cup for a number of years but it was very finicky about what particular ammo it liked and didn't like and eventually I sold it to fund something else. I certainly got my money's worth out of it and if I had held onto either gun, I think both would have been fairly equal in terms of their current value.

I've never owned a Colt Semi-auto pistol...and only a couple of years ago I got one of the new Colt Cobra .38's as my first Colt handgun. (I bought a couple of Colt AR-15's back in the early 1990's) With a few Smith K and L frame .38/.357's, and the two Dan Wesson 15-2's also residing in the safe, buying a new Python would be pretty tough to justify...

I think I'll be on the lookout for a .32 H&R as my next DW...

Stay safe.

I don't believe the large-frame Dan Wesson came in .45 Win Mag. They did come in .460 Rowland and .360 Dan Wesson.
I knew I had read it somewhere...I just couldn't remember where. I just found it, this was on the Dan Wesson forum site discussing the different frame sizes and model numbers:

7460 (460 Rowland) stainless only Norwich production only also fires 45 acp, 45 Win Mag

You are 100% correct in that it was actually .460 Rowland chambering, these guys had it listed as also firing .45 Win Mag. Again, I haven't ever seen one, and I thought the .45 Win Mag was longer than the .460 Rowland round so I figured it was a .45 Win Mag that could also chamber the Rowland ala the .38 Spl in a .357. I learn something new everyday .

Stay safe.

I do not see many DW .22's on the forums. Good thread. I have not had mine apart as I have only what's in the pic. Neat to see it apart. I had to get an original grip from the Ebay.

NWK has the DW barrel shroud bolt removal wrenches on their site, you will need the wrench and a .22 cal aluminum collet...or you'll need to spend a lot for an original DW .22 cal shroud tool. Those easily top $100 bucks. Don't try with a self-rigged-up tool, you'll damage the shroud nut or scratch the shroud all up trying to get it apart and back together again.

A shroud nut tool and a .004, .005 and/or a .006 feeler gauge to reset the barrel/cylinder gap of your choice and you're set!

They're really easy to take apart and clean. You can pop the barrel off and clean it easily. Remember to keep the threads at both ends clean and with a bit of lube so they won't bind up.

I'll also pile three or four oil-infused patches over a .35 cal cleaning jag and run through the inside of the shrouds about once year to keep the insides clean and prevent them from rusting. (If you ever get a ported DW like my buddy's 744, those get really messy inside the shroud and one needs a cleaning regularly.) Even one with a slotted barrel shroud should see a bit more cleaning of the inside of the shroud because it's open to dirt, carbon, grit, humidity, etc. Nothing is worse than finding a thin rust coating on parts you normally don't think about.

Stay safe!

Resurrecting this thread because the 4” VH barrel kit I ordered from CZ just came in the mail. It was roughly $290.00 delivered with tax, shipping etc. Not cheap, but looking at used ones on eBay, Guns America and GB I saw they were roughly the same cost.

Man, even these new DW shrouds are polished and blued impeccably, I wish all of my guns all looked as nice as this shroud does!

The only small thing I would change is the “,22LR” on the right side... I wish it was stamped in the Monson font like the originals were. Oh well, I’ll survive.

I’m finally going shooting Sunday so I’ll write up my impressions of both the 6” and 4” tubes.

Stay safe.

Nice!

I kinda dig the laser engraving.....IMO, the old stampings are kinda an eyesore on an otherwise gorgeous gun.
