Just curious - do you keep your nightstand gun holstered or is it unholstered? What do you those of you who have children do?

My Glock 17 sits on my nightstand with a round chambered and no holster. My wife knows its loaded and we do not have any children yet and I do not want to fiddle with a holster when I'm jarred from my sleep - my Glock is on the ready if I cannot get to my 870 under the bed easily.

This practice of keeping a chambered and unholstered Glock out will change when we have children.

So holster or no?

XD9 with 32rd mag under the pillow I dont use. No holster, as the gun doesnt fit in there with a flashlight attached.

Just me and my dog. So no worries about kids.

I keep my bedside gun loaded but without a round in the chamber.

Bedside gun same as carry gun. Glock 19 Gen 2 laying on floor next to bed in Crossbreed.

G29 w/ G20 mag ready to go in the hidden headboard gun drawer. Mossberg 590 Mariner next to the bed as primary with slugs and 00 buck. No kids. My house requires a 72 hour notification before kids can enter as there are far too many sharp objects, loaded weapons and other potentially kid un-friendly items lurking about.

No kids in the house so I feel no need to keep my gun "secured" or "saftied".

I keep my bedside gun (G21) in a nightstand drawer, round in the chamber, in a cheap nylon holster. I maily like the hoster as it keeps the trigger covered while I am groping for the gun in the dark, and also keeps anything from getting inside the trigger guard.

All of my handguns are holstered, although they're around the house. The gun in my bedroom is a shotgun. Interestingly, while the numbers are close-ish between holstered/not, there is definitley a favor for having a round chambered. I don't carry +1 in my guns, though, I like having the empty spot to place the chambered round if I clear it.

Thing is, two of the three handguns are holstered because the holster keeps it in the position I want. The third is holstered just so nothing gets in the trigger guard without me wanting it in there.

MyGreenGuns, they make holsters designed for a handgun with a light attached.

XD40 w/laser round chambered in a holster next to a flashlight.

I don't like the idea of a chambered gun without a holster next to me at night. Fumbling around in the dark or having a bad dream, I'm a restless sleeper, I like the idea of that trigger being covered.

No kids just a nosey cat.

Unholstered only at night, one in the chamber thumb safety on. Don't wanna grab a trigger reaching for my gun half asleep.

Live alone with my German Shepherd and there's always at least two loaded handguns and a long gun in the master bedroom.

I once awoke (i can do a lot of things while still mostly asleep), holding my loaded gun (due to screams from next door), aiming it at the wall with a family member on the other side. From then on, i started keeping my gun unchambered but still easily available.

Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. Loaded and one in the chamber, as it should be. Next to the Surefire flashlight.

G17, unholstered, unchambered. It's in a drawer and I don't want to grab the trigger if I had to reach for it in the middle of the night.

I've got one kid and the bulk of my guns stay in the safe except a couple of non-firing wall hangers and my EDC which is on me if I'm awake. When the house is sleeping it lives holstered cocked and locked on the top self (height of shelf 6 ft height of kid 3ft. It works for now but in the future a bio metric safe will be in order) of the cabinet beside my bed. Before marriage and kids I was a real Bad A#$ and slept with a lumpy pillow under my gun. (and no I did not get it backwards)

When I keep a pistol in the night stand it is unholster and fully loaded. I have children but it's simple. You parent them and teach them. My kids know they don't go in Mommy and Daddys bedroom if we aren't in there. They know not to ever touch a firearm. On top of that they know the dangers of firearms.

I was brought up old fashion. We always had firearms around the house. Rifle by the back door, shotgun in the corner, pistol always somewhere. But we knew not to touch them, if the pistol happen to be out on the table when we was dusting the table, we dust around it and knew darn well the old man would expect the table under the pistol to be untouched.

It's really just about teaching your kids, knowledge is the key. So many parents don't teach their children about firearms, don't take them shooting and that's when children becomes curious and accidents happen.

I like having the gun in the holster, less access to the trigger.

I figure if I wake up, and bad guy's already in the bedroom, well, having my gun holstered wasn't and isn't my biggest problem, then.

The holster is for me; it's not about kids. When I get up in the AM, the gun either gets locked up or worn.
