Nikon 300BLK scope

I just discovered that this exists:

At $170 I'm skeptical, but is this worth owning? The only other one I'm aware of is the $1200 Leupold, and I balk a little at that for a rifle that in truth I will not shoot all that much.

Or would I be better off just swapping over a quality red dot and rezeroing for different ammo?

dunno, but i'm facing the same dilemma once my stamp clears for a 300blk bolt gun that i will only run subsonics in. i want a reticle that allows precision but also want something very fast. the acog with 300blk reticle might be a good compromise, but it seems so out of place

We've got an ACOG with a 300blk reticle as well? I must just not be paying attention..

i haven't put my hands on one. just did a quick google search for 300blk reticle and read some of the ads for it

i think a low power variable would be idea. something like the USO 1-8x, but i don't want to spend that kind of money on this project

IMHO the Nikon 300 blackout reticle is too busy, way to cluttered up. I have the p223 3X on my blackout and love it. With nikon's spot on calculator I can easily taylor load and zero to allow easy hits on target out to 300-350 yards.

Me too. Using good ammo, I can easily (Benched) hit a 12" steel plate at 300 yards using the 3X P223. I can hit it sometimes with pulled 147 Gr bullets, but they shoot a pretty big group at 300. The 2-7 would be nice, but I wanted a more compact scope on this AR.

Me too. Using good ammo, I can easily (Benched) hit a 12" steel plate at 300 yards using the 3X P223. I can hit it sometimes with pulled 147 Gr bullets, but they shoot a pretty big group at 300. The 2-7 would be nice, but I wanted a more compact scope on this AR.

At any rate, the 3X is nice and clear, so I would expect the 2-7 to be just as good. IMO, of the cheaper priced scopes Nikon offers good glass.

Is it just a P223 with revised hold-overs for the 300, or is it a completely different scope? The P223 is pretty decent.

Just an observation; it appears to me that the Nikon 300blk reticle is way cleaner than the Leupold. I have not seen the others.

I'm making up #s here a bit but for super sonic loads hash marks would be 100y 200y 300y and for subs would be 75y 125y and 150y ish

I see... I've done some more reading on some other sites, and it turns out that those different marks in the reticle of the Nikon are NOT meant to allow for hits at known ranges for subs and supers at the same time. You need to use the same marks for both, in conjunction with the Nikon phone app to plot zeros for each mark depending on bullet weight and velocity.

Also, the zero changes as you change the magnification, unlike the Leupold. So it seems there are a couple key Leupold design advantages:

-Hash marks for both loads simultaneously
-No zero change with magnification adjustment

But the Leupold is also even more expensive than I thought, and people on the 300blk forum seem to think the scope is pretty solid for the money, and basically does what they advertize it will do. So at this point I'd probably live with the shortcomings to save $1200 on a scope I'm not going to beat the crap out of anyway.
