I have a nice AR with 24 inch barrel that I was looking to get some more use out of, particularly for long range targets and some varminting. I wouldn't mind trying some F-Class, also, if there are any matches situated here in the Midwest. I'll be doing some checking into that.

I've noticed some closeouts on the Nikon Monarchs in 6.5-20 with the illuminated mil-dot. For what I'm intending on doing, this strikes me as a good value for the money, with the savings over something substantially more expensive going into ammo and reloading. I know that Leupolds and other brands are very well regarded, but I'm wanting to conserve some money for an EoTech or similar sight for my AR carbine. My understanding is that the Nikon might run out of adjustment at very long range (1,000 yards) but I'm not aware of any other serious issues. Anyone making use of this particular scope for this purpose?

Thanks,

I've got a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20, but not the IR. I love the scope! I'm not much help though as I rarely get out over 400yds. You said they were on closeout, how much?
