Nikon M223 optical clarity

I just recently picked up one of the 3-12X versions of this scope, with the Nikoplex reticle and rapid action turrets. It works pretty well and I like it.

However it's replacing a Burris Euro Diamond 2.5-10X scope and the Burris has much better optical performance. In terms of clarity, sharpness and edge distortion the Nikon doesn't compete.

Not that the Nikon is terrible - it's just not as good.

So the question to anyone that has experience with the M223, what's your opinion of the Nikon glass, and how does it compare to other scopes you have?

I found that the 1x-4x M223 had pretty noticable barrel distortion at close ranges.

question rb? http://www.hunt101.com/showphoto.php?photo=589808&size=big&cat=&ppuser=10006 attached is a site with the manual of the leatherwood art scope that needs to be put in a pdf,and i have an orig mpc manual.would it be possible to put the art manuals in a sticky in pdf format in the optics section for eternal reference archive?

we could do this for other art manuals or scope manuals for the old stuff for rebuilds, etc
