Bought a Nikon Prostaff 5 for a friend's rifle and was very impressed with the glass, adjustments and the features for just $309.00. Side focus and European style turn in/ turn out to focus crosshairs. ( I prefer this much better than exposing threads, just looks unsightly ) Sighted in the rifle and it moved up/down and L to R as ordered, the glass was clear and the SF dialed out parallax perfectly. Anyone else out there own or shot using one of the new Fives ? Any thoughts or opinions ?

Agree with your commetn's. Nikon's new PROSTAFF 5 is one heck of a scope for a great price. I know some of them are under a PROMO right now too.
I had the pleasure of using one on a Winchest Model 70 Coyote in .22-250. Rifle and scope easily shot under .75 MOA using Winchester ammo. I do some freelance Pr/Shooting Event's for Nikon so I am always swapping out scopes and testing the latest and greatest, this is one I am buying from Nikon. Clarity, parallax and the ability to put a Custom Turret on it later on are all great reasons and throw in Nikon's No Fault warranty and it's an easy choice. Make sure you check out this site's sponsor's if any of yuo decide to take advantage fo the current Promo.

I own a Nikon prostaff 5. I bought it for an up coming rifle purchase. I feel the same as the op about the scope. It is very clear. I also own an older Buckmaster scope. When I heard Nikon was phasing out the Buckmaster and going to the 5 model I decided to take a look at it. Good scopes for a good price. I always advise people on this forum to give it a look when they ask about scopes, if it fits their budget.

Nice looking set up. Thinking of getting the 18power one for my Sako 7-08, a heck of a cost savings over the Leupold, Vortexes and NF SHV series. IMO just about as good for what I do. ( do have a 3-10-42 NF SHV on another Sako and the glass is very good, but $900 vs under $400 makes you think twice )

Ended up purchasing a Prostaff 5 4.5-18x40 (with optilock bases and rings) and am awaiting the delivery. Best price on GB was 399.99 + 9.00 S/H and when mounted and sighted in I will report back. Have never shot a "box" like people describe here and will try and do that to test the controls on this new scope. Will take some pics and post them.

my only problem is that I struggle with the concept of a $300-400 prostaff. That's like when hyundai came out with a $50k car. Nice scope, nice car, but it just feels weird to see that name associated with that price.

Believe you will see this is no old Prostaff, take one for a test drive and then see what you think. There were THOSE Prostaffs, now there are THESE Prostaffs, IMHO worth the extra cash ( not that much, compare to VXII, Burris, Weaver, Redfield and see what you think ) a big bang for each buck, 4 pt., 6 pt., 8 pt., ......;)
