I was comparing the Nikon Buckmaster and Prostaff riflescopes to place on a H&R Handi-Rifle in 45/70. I noticed that the Buckmaster line is completely waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof. The Prostaff line claims to only be waterproof and fogproof. The company says nothing about the Prostaff scopes being shockproof, however the company claims that positive click adjustments maintain your settings even with heavy recoil. What is the difference between shockproof and the fact that the scope maintains it settings even with heavy recoil. I am just trying to decide what the big difference between the Buckmaster and the Prostaff lines is other than the 92% vs. 90% light transmisson.

Well you probaly wont have an issue with either one of them.
Also remember that the Prostaff 2x7 is specifically made for shotguns and that would be one to consider on such a recoiling rifle.
As far as the light transmission question it's very,very doubtful you will notice ANY difference between the two.
The Prostaff will save you about fifty dollars.

I ran a Prostaff on a light 308 for 1000ish rounds. Kept zero each and every shot. I won't say that I mishandled it and my rifle, but I wasn't ginger with them.
Great scope, the Prostaff, one of the "best for the money" scopes out there.

I have a Nikon Prostaff, and I like it alot. I dont know how it compares to the Monarch or Buckmaster, but it seems clear and holds zero just fine with .30-06 recoil.

I know of one 2-7 Nikon PS that lived on a 30-06, 7600 for 3 years. Has been on a moss. 500 for 3 years now and it's doing great.
I think you have to double your $$ over the PS to get a 25% improvement. I want 2 more of them...............

Just my .02- as I don't have one of each to compare- but I have a Prostaff on my AR and really like it. Holds zero, great, bright picture. Great for the money.
