Are Old Army nipples interchangeable with those in Uberti Remington 1858's (.44)? They both state they use 12-28 threaded nipples...

The ROA nipples require a HEX wrench to remove whereas standard nipples use a two sided (standard revolver) nipple wrench. The only other problem might be that they could vary in length. If the nipples are too short it is an easy task to shim them out a few thou to almost kiss the hammer face. I have put ROA replacement nipples into my ASM 1860 Army and the thread pitch is the same. I don't know on the nipple length it's been years since I did it.

One thing that I learned about nipple cross-applications is that the length of the threaded portion of the nipple has an important consideration also.
If the threads are shorter than the originals you have the possibility of fouling build up in the remainder of the nipple channel that needs to be cleaned out before nipples of the same prior length can be installed again.
If the thread length is longer than that threaded depth of the nipple channel the fouling could build up on the excess threads of the nipple and make it hard -maybe impossible- to remove until that fouling is dissolved somehow.
Either instance might result in damage to the threads of the cylinder, and would promote a need to have a suitable tap to clean the threads of the cylinder's nipple channel if using nipples with shorter threads before the proper parts can be used again..

All it takes is a little water. If you're cleaning your guns regularly that shouldn't be a problem.

I swapped my original nipples for my Old Army with ToTW's nipples that are similar to Tresso's, but retain the hex head design. I'd kinda like to need only the one "nipple wrench."

But as Doak is making cool capsules that use primers instead I wondered about them being compatible as well.
