Although I don't always buy one, I always look forward to seeing which cap and ball revolver(s) Cabela's is going to put on sale on Thanksgiving week. This year....NOTHING!

I was reading some older posts today, and someone said that there would probably not be any more Cabela's BP pistol markdowns..

What has happened or changed? Does this have something to do with Pietta purchasing EMF?

Our cabelas is 5-10 minutes from Bass Pro. I dont think I've ever visited one without stopping at the other. They never have the same sales and the cabelas is typically cheaper. I use a cabelas Mastercard and pretty much only spend my points and no real cash there, but I see no difference at cabelas after the buy out other than ruining the bargain cave. I can spend my cabelas points at bass pro but it's a pain in the arse as I have to go to the front desk and swap out my cabelas gift card for a Bass pro version (unless they have changed it in the last year) They no longer do the colored Marks and percentages off in the cave either.

The Gun Library is less of a Gun Museum and more of a used Gun store now as well. I stopped being impressed about the time i seen used 226/Glock/berettas in the Gun Library. Lol. (All good guns but the library used to be filled with classics, 99s. 94s. 39s, 12s, 37s, old colts and Smith's, parker and Fox doubles. Etc)

I feel that gone are the days of the amazing cabelas black powder gun sales...and it all started with Bass Pro getting their hands on the company. Last time there was a sale was in 2017 i believe. Hasnt been one in a very long time. Usually they would have a few sales a year on them.

The last time I bought a gun on sale at Cabela's was in 2017, a Pietta 1851 Navy .36 steel for $170(!). That was the last sale I remember.

Not only did they not have a sale, Cabela's actually raised their prices $10 on all the black powder revolvers right before the holiday shopping season.

Jim

I believe your right about the last time they were on sale was 2017. I got a Pietta Colt Model 1860 that year and it was on sale, albeit for a very short period of time.

Just did a quick check. Cabelas doesn't list any sales on cap and ball revolvers although they have sales on modern handguns. Midway has a few sales on their C&B guns but only about 20 dollars or so, nothing startling. I hadn't been paying attention for a while since I have more cap and ball revolvers than I have time to shoot them. Not a bad problem to have.

Other places have good sales...but cabelas old sales were tough to beat. They practically gave the guns away. Maybe one day theyll bring back the sales.

Bannockburn,

Yes, I recall that I was glad I jumped at the chance to get it because it was not on sale the very next day.

Jim

Blame Bass Pro. I'm glad I got the revolvers I did when they were on sale. Now the only one left I want to get is the 12 inch barrel 1858 and Cabela's wasn't selling those even when they had the sales they had years ago.

After seeing the way @moose1858 is being treated by Cabelas (Ruger Old Army thread) I’m not sure I would spend my money with them. Well, they don’t have much for Uberti so it kind of rules me out anyway...

mac1029 nailed it. Cabela's is no longer the Cabela's you used to know. Bass Pro=Cabela's/Cabela's=Bass Pro. Almost all the employees at my local Cabela's have left, no reason to work there anymore. When Dick Cabela died the family wasted no time selling the company off. Bass Pro follows poor business models IMHO.

Yeah bass pro bought a good store and has ruined it. If you can't beat the competition buy them out and make them like you.

I just got the Xmas sale flyer from BassPro. The sale prices are more than my LGS charges as retail. The only reason to go to their store anymore is to look at the mounts and the fish tank.

The Cabellas/Bass Pro thing wasn't a fluke. A Wall Street hedge fund manager (vulture/corp raider) forced the merger.

Read up on Paul Singer and Elliott Management. While what they did was legal, it's hardly in the best interest of either Cabela's or Bass Pro and it isn't the first time Singer and crew have done this.

Here's just one link to the debacle-

Cabelas and bass pro has always been higher than two of my LGS. Except on Pietta black powder revolvers, Cabelas was always least expensive until Bass Pro bought them out. Now the only way I get one is with my Cabelas Visa club points.

Wow thanks for the link I was not aware of all that went down with that merger.

I’d never read that before today. I haven’t bought much from Cabelas before the merger and even less since. I may have spent my last dime in Cabelas. Not necessarily as a protest or anything, they just don’t have much of anything for me. Bass Pro has even less. Shame about Sidney though, we used to make the trip at least once a year, tried to make the big sale from time to time.
