Relax guys, I believe it to be an out of date sign.

I was buying my Winchester White boxes this evening and noticed this sign on the top of the long gun display case:

No Concealed Weapons Allowed
South Carolina Code 16-11-620
Wal Mart (c) 1996

I checked on the outside of the store to see if there was a legal no CCW sign, but none was there (South Carolina has very specific guidelines for no CCW signs).

Like I said, this is probably an old sign that no one has thought to take down.

I sure hope it's an old sign. Go check it out.

If not .... then we motivate the THR ''workforce'' and bombard the hell outa them to recind such.

I long for the day, when we see a store with a sign that says ...

CCW welcome! :) :) :)

Then - we WILL be gettin somewhere.

walmarts corporate policy is that they will NOT place "no concealed weapon" signs at any wal mart. EXCEPT where it is required by law for stores that also serve alcohol.

unless you are an associate, then you can't carry on your person or in your vehicle, whether you are on or off the clock.

This is weird. In Georgia (and Florida IIRC), your car is an extension of your home, so the employer can't tell you not to keep a gun in the car (as long as it doesn't come out on company property). We had a bit of a run-around with my employer over this, but the police confirmed it.

Is SC different about this?

it is private property, so they can pretty much do as they please(i think) while it is not against the law for you to carry there, they (think) they can still tell you what to do.

the way i look at it is that when i am off the clock they can't tell me what to do. if they did then i would be doing something for them ie: working off the clock. since working off the clock is illegal and against company policy i would hate to break a law and a company policy:uhoh:

Wal-Mart corporate policy is that regular citizens with CCW can carry in Wal-Mart/Sam'sClub.

However corporate policy also FORBIDS every Wal-Mart/Sam'sClub associate (employee) to possess ANY firearm anywhere on company property either whil working or not working either on or off the clock.
Possessions of any firearm is grounds for immediate termination of employment.

And yes this means that you cannot leave it in your car in the company parking lot. You cannot bring it onto the property of ANY Wal-Mart/Sam'sClub anywhere in the world.
John & Jane Doe can carry their concealed weapons while shopping but employees can't.
John & Jane Doe can walk across the parking lot after dark and feel safe but employees leaving after dark when the lot is nearly deserted cannot.

Which is why I quit working for them.
Now I can carry in Wal-Mart & Sam'sClub when shopping.

SC law clearly states that a no-carry sign must be posted on the outer door to a business. Failure to abide by the law in this matter would nullify their ability to prosecute someone for carrying in their store....should they choose to try.

Personally, I don't worry about it. If I feel so strongly about having a weapon available for defense of self and others, I don't allow some store's far-removed beancounters to dictate where and when I carry.
