i bought a box of super quiet .22 long rifle bullets this weekend. when i was looking around on the web, the web page says that these shouldnt be fired through a rifle, as there is a possibility of the bullet becoming lodged in the barrel. why wouldnt the ammo salesman tell me that? they are the aguila super colibri, no gun powder (propells the bullet strictly by the primer charge) shells. has anybody shot any of these? either in a rifle or pistol???

why wouldnt the ammo salesman tell me that?
Ummm, it's not the salesman's job to hold your hand and educate you? The only one who is going to look out for #1 is #1.

I hope you didn't trust your last car salesman on that "good deal."

Technically true... but I'll vote that you only got a counter jockey and not anyone who had any knowledge of their product. I've had real ammo salesman warn me off of stuff (even higher priced stuff) to go with another product because it would not fit the intended use.

Guess who gets my return business?

My ammo dealer sold me aguila super colibri with the warning, this most likely won't cycle your auto and possibly won't make it out of the barrel. Well two bricks later it has always cycled and never gotten stuck. Just so you know I single shoot this stuff out of my 10/22 to verify a open bore every time.

I working through a couple of bricks of super colibri that I mostly use in a Steven's Favorite with a 20" barrel. No problems so far. YMMV.

They work fine from my rifles with 22" bbls. The disclaimer is just a CYA in the rare case that one doesn't. Some rifles have much tighter bores than some others. CZs are notorious for tight bores.

I have fired about sixty or so of these out of my CZ 452. One of them got stuck, and it was pretty obvious when it failed to exit. push a rod through and it was fine. Be careful when shooting them out of a rifle, and don't use them where you can't hear the bullet impact or hear the different sound it will make.

I have shot two Bricks of them, and working on the third one, in various rifles & handguns, without a single stuck bullet. Old Winchesters with stove-pipe bores, to modern & shiny new rifles.

I use them for function testing in the shop all the time.

Someone noted on another thread that they have had them stick in a 26" Model 52 target rifle.
So I guess they eventually run out of steam somewhere past 22" - 24".

Try them in your gun and see what happens.
I bet they work just fine though!

Friend of mine has shot a lot of them out of a 20" BLR.
My gunsmith shoots them in a 4" Kit Gun.
I have heard of them sticking bullets in long barrels.

Be sure to spot each shot and if you don't get a hit, STOP and check the bore.

They worked fine for me out of my old Marlin/Glenfield Model .25 bolt action.

But then again, I didn't have to check the bore after I shot it because that damn rooster was finally deader than a doornail.

I had a guy at a gunstore try to sell me subsonic ammo that said "pistol only" on both the box, and a sticky note on the display after telling him it was for a rifle.

They won't cycle any semi-auto.

But they will feed manually out of the magazine in everything I have shot them in.

They work slicker then owl dodo in the old Winchester 90, 06, 61, 62A pumps!
Also 9422 lever-guns.

Any one remember BBcaps, a round ball stuffed into a .22 short case, used for gallery guns mostly old pumps. Then there was CB caps a conical bullet couldn't have been over 20grs on a long case I think. used these on rabbit. The BBcaps shot out of a 511 Remington bolt sounded about like someone popping a bubble on bubble wrap, the cbs are still sold by CCI and Agulia I haven't seen the BB in quite a few years.Of course when was the last time you saw a shooting gallery.
I guess lawyers would have a time with that, when the problem teen turns loose on a crowd at the local carnival!

Any of the "quiet" ammunition, including both Aguila Colibri as well as CCI CB Long or CB Short can be cycled manually through a semi auto action. They are very useful when stealth is needed and they are most quiet when shot out of a rifle; a bit louder out of a handgun. I think the Colibri slugs are under 20 grains as the CB's are 20 grains and travel somewhere between 500 and 750 fps. Both can kill small mammals but perhaps may not be the most humane ammo if a quick dispatch is desired. I'm not sure why the CCI CB's are priced so much higher than their standard Mini Mags, but the difference is considerable.

Wouldn't use it in a target barrel, but in a standard gun, you should be fine.

Works just dandy in a revolver.

well, i shot it today, it went through just fine. it makes as much noise coming out of the barrel as it does hitting the plywood 40 yards away. pretty quiet.

super colibris are made to fire out of a rifle bbl, it is Colibris that are made for pistol bbls. those super's are 25 yard plinking really, backyard control. Don't worry, they should make it out of your bbl easy.

I was able to get my 10 22 to cycle by using a worn out, used up, 20yr old, 60,000+ round shot out Ruger. :).

Really I think the weak recoil spring, and very broke in bolt do it. Aguila wont cycle 3 other 10/22 in the house.

Nope. Not going to argue. Not going to believe it either though. Bolt mass and hammer spring play a much larger part in that process in semi-auto operation than bolt friction or recoil spring. But whatever you want to claim.

What's the point of this ammo? The ballistics must be disgusting. Can't even imagine they're good enough for accurate and consistent plinking past a handfull of yards.

what is the point? are you kidding??? fun , fun , fun, just a ton of fun, especially if you can get them to fire out of a semi auto. So you must try it, or if you have a long bbl'd 22, bolt action tube fed, that will hold about 20 shots at one time, they are great as well.
