No more ammo at Walmart? (merged threads)

Give it at least 24 hours to confirm if it's true, but I don't doubt it. Kmart folded after the Columbine shooting because one of the kids bought ammo there.

If it is, we should start faxing them copies of our receipts from ammo purchases from other vendors to point out how much money they are giving up.

bogus story according to walmart

but then there is this
http://investmentwatchblog.com/breaking-confirmed-wal-mart-is-not-going-to-order-any-more-ammo/

Walmart Guy: "I know there was going to be a ... there was going to be a new policy change according to the Federal Gun Control Act ... but ... Checking ..."
Investment Watch Guy: "And what does that mean?"
WG: "The new law that the President's getting ready to enact."
IWG: "Well, you don't have any idea what that says, do you? I mean, is that you're no longer going to carry ammunition?"
WG: "To be honest with you, I don't know what the policy is going to be, but I was told they were going to be reviewing it. So."
Reviewing policy and referencing some as-yet unknown law doesn't seem to be the same thing as affirming they won't be distributing more ammo.

WMarts around here have been poor producers for the last few years anyway...no loss except shame to see the lack of support.

Ammo

In this area, Wal Mart supplies lots of guns and ammuntion. This area is supported by money from hunters and this will hurt as gun stores are few and far between.

What "news" was this on? It's bouncing around some blogs and apparently Rush Limbaugh, but my local WM told me barely an hour ago it's bogus.

If this is true that WM is willing to sacrifice sales and gun owner loyalty (hey, we buy other stuff there, too) , I will happily treat them just as I am treating Dicks and CTD- by spending my money elsewhere.

Walmart would like nothing better than to get out of many departments in their general merchandise side. Their bread and butter is groceries in the supercenters.

They would love (and are) building much smaller pilot stores in areas to test. Has been going on several years.

As has been mentioned, many other businesses will love to take up the slack there.

Heck, they may get out of firearms altogether, before this is done.

Perhaps mom & pop stores will slowly make a comeback, but the upcoming economic problems may be overwhelming.

OK, I sent an email at 5:02PM EST, let's see if they respond and how long it takes.

Here is the message I sent:

I have heard rumors on both sides of the fence about Wal-Mart's standing on gun and ammunition sales. I have shopped in my local Wal-mart for years, I have bought hundreds of dollars in ammunition during that time as well as several firearms. I want to ask you the following two questions and ask that you provide a frank, direct, and real answer to both.
1. Have you suspended sales of AR style rifles, or are you just out of stock?
2. Have you decided not to order more ammuntion to sell or is it merely a rumor.
Thank you for your honesty and candor.

Ex Walmart manager here.... For what its worth, a regular sales associate would not be privy to any unannounced info at this early stage, and management would not disseminate anything till it is an official policy, because Walmart has a tendency to take "Information" very seriously, and they fire people for opening their mouths without authorization.

I was in retail management (not Wal-Mart) myself years ago and I would agree. The folks that interface with the public in the stores don't have the real story. They sure spread info like it is gospel though don't they?

No ammo!.......how am I suppose to exercise my 2nd amendment rights to protect my family and those Chinese made goods purchased at Walmart?

We have members reporting they talked to WalMart and this is may just be another internet rumor.

Until some reliable information is posted there's not much to talk about except to regurgitate the story for others to swallow and pass along. That certainly isn't High Road behavior so the best thing to tell others is that it could be an Anti trick.

Spoke with a Manager at one today and he confirmed it, though his employees knew nothing of it.

The one I spoke with was at the Frederica street store, in Owensboro, ky. The one on highway 54 in Owensboro knew nothing of it. Go figure.

The article is half true. The stores are NOT allowed to order what they need for ammo, they are instead just sent ammo (after they request it from walmart).

Half true and hugely sensationalized.

Well...Rush Limbaugh is not wrong about the left and Democrats who cause most of the problems in this country. If you don't like Limbaughs message then you are part of the problem...so stop whining about your "gun rights" and start connecting dots:fire:

Sage advice.

The first thing I did was start searching for information on this. There is NOTHING on any of the major news outlets, and this isn't something that any of them would pass over considering the current social and political situation.

This isn't to say it's untrue at this point. Just that it has a lot of earmarks of a typical internet rumer/scam/BS.

So take this "announcement" with a grain of salt and don't over react or make rash decisions/announcements over it until we hear more.

:scrutiny:

I have a broken watch. It's right twice a day.

Hate to go off subject but I stopped going into WM a few years ago. If I wanted a salesperson I had to go to the music department. And checking out was a PITA. I pay a little more else where and survive without WM.

Bingo!!! Because Rotund Rush said it does not make it true.

Could it simply be that Wal-Mart has run out of ammo to sell. Maybe the warehouses are empty. Many of the online retailers claim they are out of certain ammo types and don't know when they be resupplied. If it happened to other big time ammo sellers like Cheaper Than Dirt, Grafs, Able Ammo, and Midway; could that have happened with Wal-Mart too?
