No more ARs left for christmas

Why oh why did i wait. I'm going to fuel the fires of panic and go to Gander Mountain tomorrow to see what they have. I do not want to be stuck with just a WASR for the rest of my life.

I'm not typically one to fan the fires of "oh-my-god-the-sky-is-falling" but I finally pulled the trigger on the last of the Colt AR-15s at Bud's Gun Shop.

Up until now I was a pistol kinda guy. The only rifle I have in the safe now is an M1 Carbine replica.

Then tonight I see Seattle starting to think of passing laws... I just moved here from Ohio for a job. One criteria I had was no crazy laws...

I don't like someone -- the Man -- telling me what I can't do. I can buy this legally today. If I can't buy it a year from now at least I can say I have it. Is it the gun I would get if I had to really choose? Not really... but it's close enough.

Sigh. My view: I'll leave you to do whatever you want to do; you do the same for me. As long as whatever the hell you want do doesn't affect me we're cool.

I'm thinking that high cap mags and bump stocks will be the next victims of Sandy Hook.

Brother told me yesterday he was in lgs and someone on the phone bought the last two ARs. Ammo in ALL popular calibers at Acadamy in Monroe,LA was getting pretty low on Saturday. Oddly enough there were several boxes of American Eagle 5.56 left on the shelf. At $11 a box I think I know why.

The part I don't get about banning the sale of "Assalt" type rifles is it'll probably take a t least 50 years before you MIGHT ever see any meaningfull decrease in shootings related to these rifles because there are sooooo many in the the hands of the public now. Just seems like another knee jerk, slap another band aid on the problem kind of reaction by Washington. Unfortunately this country has been headed down the wrong path for years and we're seeing the results of that choice now.

If the federal gov't runs manufacturers of AR type rifles out of business, do you think they'll receive any stimulas money?

Don't worry. From March into April, many people will be looking to offload their recently purchased AR-15's in order to pay their taxes!

I'm going to have to stop by my LGS after work to see what's in stock.

I almost wonder what a ban would accomplish. By the time it gets through Congress, everyone who wants an "assault weapon" (note my use of quotes) will probably already have them :D

I stopped by my local Academy Sports store today around lunchtime, and people were lined up at the gun counter filling out purchase forms. There were about seven AR-type rifles left in the racks, one in pink, and one in .308. They sold the last Bushmaster in stock while I was looking around. I'm happy I bought mine a while ago, and at a lower price.

My local news station was reporting Dick's Sporting Goods pulled (not sold) all theirs off the shelves today. Just checked...it was nationwide.

You're exactly right about that one...I bought an Armalite AR10 right after the last "AW" frenzy when we lost the president...paid less than $750.00 for it. Couldn't believe it.

I know it's free enterprise and all, but dealers that immediately jack their prices piss me off. When suppliers/ distributor's/ importers prices go up - makes sense, ya gotta pass it along. Ditto for any long(er) or permanent shortage - that's just supply & demand. IMO, trying to cash in w/ double-digit % increases just because you can is gouging.

After Obama was elected the first time, I added a couple well known Internet retailers to the list of folks I won't buy from. Unfortunately, I've added at least two more in as many days this week. I've purchased guns and/ or ammo, etc. from both in the past - not again.

They sell them at Wal-Mart. Just go find "the guy" at walmart that stocks the sporting goods section or "the kid" that works in that section all the time. give him $50 to text you the moment they come in....make sure you are ready to leave at a moments notice. It might not be "the best" but its a cheap foundation to build on. Just think, Wal-Mart might be your only hope.....

i didn't say dick's never had anything, just not much. even i am guilty of purchasing a gun there. got a decent price on a savage rimfire with a heavy fluted barrel.

won't be buying anything from them again, though.

and, yes, that's Ralphie from A Christmas Story. he really wanted an AR, just had to settle for the Red Ryder with a compass in the stock.

I have a Rock River Arms M16 style rifle in olive drab that I have rarely shot, because, my Sig 5.56 gets all the play. Whadya guys think, sell the M16 in the frenzy and get a great return on investment or leave it under the bed?

So grateful for stocking up when times are "normal". When the rush is on, make some popcorn and watch the show.

Problem with that is "one more is never enough". I had your exact thoughts on Friday, but I went ahead and pulled the trigger on one of the "tacticool" .22s yesterday. I'd been dithering for a couple of weeks, had pretty much decided to wait until the first of the year, but decided not to wait on Monday night. Part of that was figuring I might not be able to get it as easily after Christmas (due to panic, not actual legislation), and part of it was wanting to use NICS to record my vote against any future legislation. Although the insanity hasn't hit those yet (price was actually cheaper than I had looked at the week before, albeit by only $7), I then entered the market looking for some regular cap magazines (proprietary) for that...

I understand what you are getting at, but I was fooled by that as well. It is the Varmint load that you saw, not the usual FMJ American Eagle. They had about 50 boxes of the AE in stock at my local wally world, and the price was still $6.97, so I told the clerk I would take them all. We moved them all to the register, and he started ringing them up, and the price was $10.99 a box.

I said "Whoa", that aint right. They are $6.97. I asked for a manager to try o get them at the lower price, but the manager said their policy was they would give me one of the mismarked items at the lower price, but not 50. So I said no thanks and left.

The varmint loads are priced over 10 bucks, and the stupid box looks exactly like the FMJ box. :D

On my local board in Virginia people are selling stripped lowers (DPMS, Palmetto, CMMG, Aero) for $300-$400, and people are buying them. I haven't even tried walking into a LGS in my area but I'm sure it's crazy.

I visited my range today and stopped in the shop for a quick look around. The place was jamming, with a parking attendant and a security guard controlling the number of patrons inside the store like it was a dance club.

There was a wall rack full of EBRs, some of which were definitely AR-style, though for all the people I could not get lose enough to get a detailed sense of exactly what they were. Could have been rimfires.

After a late lunch I stopped by the usually well stocked LGS, the one that still had half a dozen models of of AR's on the wall when I stopped in there on Tuesday and bought their last 2 PMAGS at $19 each, is now sold out of AR's and AK's (one of each on display that have tags saying display only) but have some cheap junky looking black guns (don't know the brand or caliber), parking lot still packed with people buying anything they could, prices on magazines now at insane levels, they had boxes of used metal magazines when I was there 2 days ago, now it is down to a handful starting at $49 each (including $49 for a used PMAG).
