So, I've notice that I have not seen anyone with the titanium taurus 738's in stock (or other new titanium models). I have also not seen anyone talking about them or seeing them anywhere.

Out of personal curiosity, I called Taurus to ask who had them.

The Taurus answer was:

"We have halted all production of Titanium model guns because the price of titanium has gotten too high. We do not have any expected resume date".

Anyone have conflicting/supporting information on this oddity?

Apples and oranges...

I own a jewelry store. Titanium rings haven't moved in cost for me at all from the distributors.

All metal is somewhat up. But doesn't make sense because ALL metal is up.

Honestly I couldn't understand it based on titanium market pricing. Yes, it's up, but didn't seem like such a change that it would stop product production.

Unless maybe in working with titanium there's A LOT of waste?

I don't know.

probably alot of waist as cskny suggested also taurus may be holding back because the prices of the finished product may go above what the average consumer would pay for one of there firearms

its a blessing and a curse for taurus on one hand they are trying to make affordable products and on the other hand they know they would price themselves out of the market

I guess. But honestly, even my own argument seems weak, I mean how much titanium vs. steel are we talking about to make a slide?

Geez, the TCP's slide is tiny to begin with! :)

They had some problems with Titanium parts in revolvers. The material is very strong, light, but elastic. I suspect that material costs are a good excuse to back away. I have had good luck with several conventional Taurus revolvers, but I made a point not to touch a Total Titanium model with a 10 foot pole.

taurus has advertised things before without delivering them right away

the 3 inch magnum judge was advertised for almost two years before they hit the shelves

I have never heard this before. I have had a titanium revolver for about 10 years. I have never had a problem with it & the titanium finish is above durable.

I have only seen one TCP since they have been out & it didn't stay on the shelf 1 week & most shops around here don't stock titanium because they are about $100 more. I have to order my titanium's around here because no one else will buy them so they don't stock them.

As far as price goes I have no idea what the raw cost is but for every pinny added the end cost is extreme. It is my understanding that it takes longer to turn out titanium also & with lower sales the cost goes up.
