Yep - we keep hearing about how the .50BMG can "punch through an armored limousine".

    WHO rides in THOSE? Hmmmm?

I hope to see .499 Third_Rail Squeezebore. It can use .50bmg bullets if you reload, but it just happens to have rifling cut so the fired projectile is .499.... nope, no 1/2in law broken there...

I would call the round the .499 Arnold so everyone will know why it came into being.

"A single shot was fired from an ultra-high-power assault sniper rifle last night, piercing the metal of a driver's car on the 101 and killing him instantly. Police confirmed that the bullet was fired from a rifle designed to slip through a loophole in last year's progressive .50 caliber ban. 'Well, it wasn't pretty,' said Officer Smith of the LAPD. 'I took one look, and I knew this guy had been hit by a Girlie-Man.'"

    And then:

"A bill was put forward today in Sacramento that would ban the deadly sniper-fired .499 caliber round. A top democratic official announced the bill's introduction. 'We must move quickly to pass the Girlie-Man Ban!' said Senator Brown."

Ha, with a name like the .499 Girlie-Man, it can't be banned. Imagine the public outrage of those who live an "alternative lifestyle" if Girlie-Men are banned?

Of course they're afraid of weapons that can puncture armor. When you're in the business of legislating our freedoms away, one bill at a time, you should be afraid.

reminds me of the idea someone had the other day. If we paint all our guns pink, maybe they'll be less scary. I'm currently working on a million mom march hot pink AK to see if it works.

Seriously, the .499 idea should be thought about... I know we'd be playing their game but we'd be making a huge statement at the same time. :D

No, unscrew the barrel, cut a couple threads off the back, screw it back in. You end up not being able to chamber standard 50BMG loaded rounds; you have to handload with the bullet set back a hair.

That's the cheap way to do a "wildcat" that's legal. And I *love* the idea of calling it the .499Girlieman.

There are those who would find this thread a little offensive, inasmuch as it appears that some posters suggest using large bore rifles to intimidate politicos and antigun celebs. I'm certaint that this would be a misconstruction, but it kind of reads that way.

    I'm closing it.
