From Springfield...

Thanks for the email.

The XD(m) is available in .40 cal and 9mm only.
No plans for the .45ACP or external thumb safety or compact version yet.

Please check the website often or call us periodically at the number below for updates.

Thank you and have a great day!

Ah yes, but the good news, if you want to dig into the grammar, is that they're referring to "THE .45 ACP, external safety, and compact versions."

Which means such versions exist in the minds at SA, they're just not doing them NOW.

I would LOVE a compact XDm.

If they can get 19+1 capacity for a 9mm, and 16+1 capacity for a 40S&W.

Could you imagine a 13 or 14+1 capacity for the 45ACP?

Forgive me, I'm drooling...

Yup!

I know several people who want to buy an XDm and nothing else...but have been waiting for the .45acp version. How can you have a 9mm and a .40SW, and NOT develop a .45acp. C'mon Springfield!

I firmly believe that this gun is in the works and it is only a matter of time before they bring it out. It took them a while to bring out a 45ACP version in the regular XD line.

I could imagine a 13+1 capacity for the 45ACP, it's called the XD45 and has been out for a good while now. :neener:

I'm quite eager for the XDM 45 to come out, but I'm not sure how many more rounds they can really fit in a mag without making the grip either really wide, really long, or both.

I have have eagerly been waiting for an XDM in .45ACP. Its the only reason why I have held out from buying one. I like the way the 9mm and .40 feel, but if I am getting one it will be in .45ACP and hopefully with a 14+1 capacity:evil:

For now, I will gladly stick to my XD Tactical 5" .45ACP :)

I have a XD-45 and if they come out with a XDm in .45 acp it will jump to the front of my list, They prob will add a round or 2 to the mag count but a 14 or 15+1 .45acp would be :what:

Yup, myself and several clients are just waiting to spend our hard earned dollars on the XDm in .45acp...and I know of many others that have expressed interest. (as long as the grip size stays manageable) What ARE you THINKING Springfield. :(

If they bring out the .45gap first, I will officially disown them...as that would be like twisting the knife..or pouring salt in the wound. But, I'm beginning to lose hope when they didn't bring it out at the Shotshow or the NRA convention...then they responded by email as they did above.

The next SHOT Show is January 19th through 22nd, 2010. I'll check the Springfield booth when I'm there and see if they have plans for the .45 acp XD-M, though one in 357 Sig would be nice, too. My first XD was in 357 Sig, and it's been a really good one. The others in 9x19 and .45 acp have also been good ones.

If they would make one in .38 Super or 10mm, I'd be the first one in line to buy one, preferably one of each..........

Hope this helps.

Fred

Thumb safeties suck. They get in the way :barf:. I do like the .45 ACP idea though. BTW The FHN FNP 45 can hold 14+1. And the glock 20 with +2 mag extension will hold 15+1 with no thumb saftey. :D

And vast numbers of 1911 and BHP owners would disagree on the thumb safety sucking

I am definitely one of these. Riding the safety of a 1911 helps control the pistol during recoil; however, I do not believe the XD needs a thumb safety.

But, I like the idea of presenting it as an option for the weapon. Departments that require a manual safety would be able to carry this weapon as well as those that are more comfortable with a thumb safety than without one.

If you don't want the thumb safety, don't get that option.

Plus, I think the reason we haven't seen an XD-M 45 is because, well, except for the changable backstrap and some cosmetic differences, the XD-M's are XD 45 frames and ergonomics.

If they were to do for the XD 45 what the XD-M's extra grip length did for the 9mm and .40 versions, you'd never conceal an XD 45. Still, some people want interchangable backstraps, and the controls been sleeked up. Making those cosmetics to an XD 45 would be welcome.

And mesinge2 - I agree. An XD doesn't need a thumb lever. It's safe as is.

Ergonomics is the issue that I WANT in the XDm, or I would get the XD45.
VERY FEW pistols have the gripsize that feels right in my hand, the XD does not.
The XDm does.

My mistake was that I started semi-automatic pistol shooting with a Browning HiPower (after years with revolvers)...and the BHP perhaps the best fitting pistol I've ever shot. NOTHING fits as well as the HiPower, because of the narrowing of the grip at the top. If they made the BHP in a .45 (polymer) I would be content. I like the .45 round much better than the 9mm or even the .40. I'm a believer in the BIG .45 school of stopping power. (and yes, I'm a believer in a 12ga slug even more...) :)

I have settled with a 1911 (Yup, Springfield) with a flat mainspring housing, but I would also like to get something NEW, Polymer, etc...but that fits ergonomicly. The standard frame "XD" feels much like the GLOCK (much like a 2x4 or a Brick). But, the XDm has been the ONLY modern polymer pistol I've found that has similar ergonomic "feel" as the BHP (natural pointer).
Now......in .45ACP, PLEASE! (I'm a believer in the .45round, I can share ammo with the 1911, etc).
C'mon Springfield...

check out the new cz p07, that is the best feeling, most ergonomic polymer pistol i have held.

Will DO 1911! Thank you.
The CZ's have always felt like the BHP because they have that similar narrowing at the top of the grip. It's worth a look since Springfield won't get off their butt about the XDm.
I'm a BIG believer in that a pistol should "point" naturally.

no prob arizona, i might wait until they come out the the p07 in 40 cal, and sell my mp40c for it. :D

I have an XD45 service and an XDM9mm. Personally the fit and finish on my XD is better than my XDM and I like that gun better.

But the thing about the XDm is it has the smaller (at the trigger level) fitting grip size. That is the critical issue for me.
The Narrow grip size at the top of the grip.

The XDm has a better grip ergonomic for me.
But, of course that could change (they will probably screw it up) if they ever DO make the .45acp, because they may sacrifice that (to jamb more rounds into the rig).

If a person looks at the HiPower or the CZ type pistols, they have an "inset" or "narrowing" of the grip at the top. SOMEHOW the XDm has created a similar feel, while at the same time keeping a high round count. It has a lot to do with the extra thumb and finger "wells" on the grip sides.

It's a miracle! No other Polymer pistol I have found has that, except perhaps the p07 mentioned. The 1911 I have, fits because it's a single stack, but somehow the XDm has a double stack mag while still keeping that narrowing at the top, which results in a GREAT NATURAL POINT without sacrificeing round count. I like the construction, fit, and finish of the standard XD, but it feels like a Glock ("block") in my hand, with no natural point. The XDm is quite different, and has a GREAT "feel".
