I was told by a post master that it is now illegal to mail firearms.
I was told by someone else that I could but it had to go ground.
I was told by somebody else that it was a parcel nothing more.

What's the truth?

Can I as a non FFL ship to an FFL in another state if I have a copy of his license?

Do I have to declare that I'm shipping a gun or is it just another package?

What the hell am I supposed to do with the copy of his license?

I was told by a post master that it is now illegal to mail firearms.

Tell him to re-read the regs (specifically DMM C024 Other Restricted or NonMailable Matter).

Long guns can be shipped by USPS. How you want to ship it is up to you. I normally declare that I am shipping a long gun. Some postal clerks will make you fill out a form 1508 but unless you are a dealer or manufacturer you legally do not have to.

You as a non FFL can ship a rifle to a FFL in another state through USPS.

You as a non FFL cannot ship a hand gun under any circumstance through USPS.

You as a non FFL can ship a long gun to anyone within your state wether they have an FFL or not, using USPS.

A few months ago, I was able to ship some long guns to myself in another state through USPS. The only question they asked me was "is it loaded?" :)

In Texas

I can ship a longarm to another non FFL buyer anywhere in the state using the US Mail. This is Texas -unsure of your state. The 2 times I did it took more time and argument than it was worth. The clerk actually told me "not in my Post Office!", an hour later as I was shipping with another clerk he was no where to be seen....

I shipped it today. No one ask me if it was a gun and I saw no reason to volunteer the info.

I was only asked if it was fragile, combustible or potentially hazardous.
Which reminded me of what the Post Master told me.
It was his position that a gun was potentially hazardous.
It was my position that he was an ignorant jackass that couldn't be bothered to learn the rules and regs of his job, which is probably why i lost the argument.
