I live a pretty safe lifestyle. But...I do like to be prepared. Regular bulletproof vest is a little much for my situation. What I am looking for is a jacket (or something similar) that provides protection against body punches. Any ideas?

I'll even consider a poor performing (against bullets) body armor as long as they provide "armor" against body punches and are undetectable by an outside observer.

The best solution is to do a lot of sit-ups.

Heavy coats also help, in the winter. Or you could wear a tae-kwon-do chest protecter, but that might not be very concealable.

Take a real martial art. Look into Muay Thai, Sambo, maybe Krav Maga or Systema. Boxing is good too.

After awhile, you really just don't mind being hit anymore.

I have trained muay thai for nearly a decade and I can tell you that anything that would really protect you would have to be far too large to wear daily. You would look silly and you would not be able to do daily tasks.

Perhaps if there was something hard, like metal plates in it (maybe a flack jacket) but it would be heavy, uncomfortable and a major PIA to wear something like that IMO.

Even the belly pad I use when I hold pads for people is not enough if some one punches really hard especially if I'm not ready.

I will also say of most street fights I've seen people tend to head hunt anyways. It is an experienced fighter that will go to the body in which case your probably going to come out poorly even if he cannot hurt you to the body.

There maybe something I am unaware of but I cannot think of anything too practical.
