Norinco 1991 .45

I recently picked up a used Norinco 1911 type in .45 acp.
Seems in very good shape, no rust, ect...
I'm wondering what the cocensus of opinion on these pistols is, since I'm not at all familiar with them. Any info is greatly appreciated.

They're generally considered good guns and a lot of top smiths used to build competition guns based off of them. Used to because they've been hard to come by due to importation bans on Norinco products.

Summary --quality of materials very good, quality of fitting spotty. Most are good shooters a few are just not fitted very well.

I'm happy with the two I'd gotten back when they were $225-$250 new. One went away with the second wife. They were great buys at those prices back then.

I got this one for $225. With the original plastic grips and nice pacmyers. Seems pretty nice, rattles a little when I shake it. I fired it a couple of clips, just to check function. Can't say yet how accurate it is.

$225 for a Nork even if it needs a barrel refit is a steal. I would buy some more at that price.

I bought one around 1990 or 1991 after reading that Bill Wilson said the steel was better than Colt. Not as finely-finished as other 1911s and had a rattle (which I actually prefer - I don't like tight guns), but had mine matt-blued, polished the feedramp, tuned the extractor, put better sights and a set of Hogues on it, replaced the trigger and sear, bobbed the hammer. Carried and shot competitively with it for a number of years - I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

rattles a little when I shake it.

All 1911's should rattle a bit, every Colt 1911 that I've owned and the 3 I currently own all rattle a bit if shaken.

Norinco's really a need new barrel and springs, after that its all personal preference. Here's my Norinco after, new grip panels, drop in beaver tail, STI hammer, plus trigger job, new barrel, and springs.

I have one, but the only original Norinco parts are the frame and the slide. The barrel and bushing are National Match. The sights and most of the internals are also target quality, but I'm not sure if they are NM or not.

It is a tack driver, and if it held more than 7+1, it would be my favorite 1911.

Mine (all original) feeds FMJ and JHP and goes bang every time I want it to. What else do you need?

Okay... I need a beavertail that doesn't scrape up my hand after a day a the range... and nicer grips... and the front sight needs to be repainted... well, at least it goes bang every time!
