sorry if this is already answered elsewhere, couldnt find it.
anyway, i know that the original winchester 1893 used 2 5/8 in. black powder shells, but i am wondering if the modern norinco repro (interstate arms 93w), which is advertised as using 2 3/4 in. shells, also needs black powder or can it fire modern ammunition? googling the question comes up empty. i ask because i have an opportunity to get the 93w but not the 1897 clone any help would be appreciated. thanks

oh, here is the one i am talking about: http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...erstate+Arms+93W+++12+20+CB+COWBOY+PUMP+++WAL (not getting it there though)

SPAM thy name is MMKORS.

Anyway, Norinco has a rep for using better steel than necessary in receivers and barrels. I would expect to use any 2 3/4" ammo in a Norinco chambered for 2 3/4" shotshells. There are no inherent weaknesses in the 1893 tor 1897 Winchester design.

thanks to those who responded with the exception of the spammer. one last question, is it possible to put the heat shield and bayonet lug made for the 1897 on this shotgun?
i will be paying a gunsmith to do this, was wondering if it is possible before buying the gun

They're pretty decent guns for the price. I have untold thousands of rounds through my 97 "trench gun" including hundreds of 2-3/4" slugs. Dang accurate with them too.

Only warning I have regarding them, is that if you do a lot of "slam-firing" (holding the trigger and pumping it to fire fast) you might break the spring and collar off the magazine tube that acts as the fore-end's stop. Mine was only held on by three tack welds and worked its self loose. Silver soldered it back on and never an issue since.

http://www.iacshotguns.com/99t.html The "Trench Gun" ... dunno who might have them for sale, not seen any since I bought mine several years ago. Weird that it lists it as five round capacity... I can cram 6+1 into mine lol. :D
