I've got three in varying configurations, I think they all have the thicker receiver (1.5mm vs 1.0mm) so thats a plus. I've never had any problems at all with mine. I'd say they are among some of the best AK's you can get. Just my opinion though, don't claim to be an expert. Is there one in specific your refering to?

Short answer... yes. They might even be slightly better than the Romies, which are typically viewed as being bottom-of-the-line.

ok thanks, i am asking for a friend. a co worker wants to sell him one with five 30 round mags, three 40 round mags and 500 rounds for $500. if he don't buy it i will!

That is an excellent deal. Take it now! Mags alone are worth about $75. 500 rounds, about $130 (and that's a deal). This is a deal that you probably won't find again. Do it before someone else does.

I could have bought one for $340 on November 1st. I passed:banghead::banghead::banghead:

That sounds like a great deal with the mags & ammo

I've got a Norinco from back around 1993, think it was around 275.00 new in box, was at a gun show last sat. an seen one for 695.00....didn't know they were that good until I saw this thread, wish I had bought several back then,,,,....in 1980 you could, an I did buy a M1 Carbine from JC Penny for 149.00.....

Are all the MAK-90's Norinco built?

Anyway, yep, MAK-90's may not be the prettiest of the AK style rifles, but they sure are tough and fun to shoot!
I'm not one to believe a milled AK is any better then the stamped rifles. However, the MAK-90's are 1.5 mm sheet thickness vs. 1.0 mm for all the rest...if you think that's important.

my first ak variant is a norinco mak90 in .223, awesome triggers actually better than my stock ar and vz58. as mentioned above they dont bring em in anymore so everybodys jumpin on them real quick. yep majority of people hate the thumbhole stocks, but i like them after you modify it a little

how does that plastic mag work? I've only managed to get my hands on 1 .223 mag over the years for a reasonable price.

I have two Chicom AKs. I like the receivers bec its thicker.

Many hearsays the thicker receiver bec of Chinese poor metallurgy which is all BS coming from those who dont own one. As far I can tell they made it better from the original Russian design.

The top ones to own in the USA right now are Bulgarian , Chinese , Hungarian then the Romanians. The Saigas are there too but u have to convert them from the civilian version.

The Chinese are well known for making crappy products.....

AK's are not among them.

$500 sounds like a great deal I would go for it!

I have a pre-ban Hungarian SA-85 and I really do not mind the thumbhole stock on the AK platform; the stock somewhat offsets to front heavy nature of the platform. Converting my pre-ban would cost money and take away from the gun in my opinion; I just got a Saiga 12 and do plan on a pistol grip conversion- in the current configuration, with a 20" barrell, the gun is very VERY long.

norincos are the best

The Norincos are the best ak-47 variants. They have a chrome lined barrel and have a robust 1.5 mm thickness receiver. Other variants of AK may have chrome lined barrel but a thin receiver or a thick receiver but no chrome barrel. A good Norinco rifle will last FOREVER. Buy it and enjoy.

mtlucas, the plastic pro mags work fine for me but had to file here and there to lock up, and to have the bolt slide free and feed properly. its a 30 rnd clip shoots 28 no problems till the last 2. originally came with a steel 5 round clip, but i just cut the stopper inside and now it feeds 10 rounds no problem.

Jumping in..
ifit, the 5.45 mag fed all the rounds...

On my last outing there were a lot of guns, sks,ar,golani, fal, all total about 20 guns.. My norinco performed as well if not better than most of the guns there.. I am not a sharp shooter, but was able to put a hole just off center of a 3" across 1/4" thick metal gong a 200' using wolf metal case HP.. Then my buddy says, that target is for the 22s.. oops
Anyway, the norinco is very reliable, and all the guys there shot my gun, and said it is "sweet".. I was going to try and tweak the sites, but they said, "it don't need any tweaking". So it is the way I bought it out of the box, never messed with..

I am including a pic of it, and the mag that works great from promag that I bought from centerfire for about $14...

cajun47 norinco ak 47 good?

Poly Tech and Norinco Chinese AKMs are the very best AK47 variants.
They are available in the high priced pre-ban form and as MAK-90s.

My Norinco is a pre ban that I modernized.

The Chinese make some excellent firearms. I had both Russian and Chinese SKS annd Nagants. The Chinese built were just a nicely built and more accurate.

The Chinese AKs were the WASRs of their day.

Fond memories and 922r complications are being confused with "It's the AK $DEITY would choose." They were crap then, and unlike wine, age has not improved them.

Do you know why it's thicker?

ChiCom AKs have never been and never will be crap.
Poly Tech and Norinco AKs only get better with age.

Norinco AK's are very high quality and certainly much nicer than any of the Century assembled AK's in my opinion.

I really love my Norinico 84s underfolder!
