Hi folks,

I have a Norinco SKS from a friend's estate, and it's in decent condition. Trigger pull is from here to the back forty, but it seems to feed well.

Problem is, I get around an MOA at 100 with better guns, and this Chinese specimen can't seem to hold 5 MOA. I bought a sighting adjustment tool for it, then realized, after another range session, that it won't be doing me much good.

Oh well, I have 15 dollars into the gun (sight tool and 1 inch buttpad to make the length of pull better for me).

What can these do? I know that they, and AKs vary, some people swear can drive nails, others couldn't hit dinner plates.

If your action to woodstock has some movement , then try to determine how to tighten it up by adding some masking tape inside the inlet or whatever . I did that on my Norinco SKS and the groups improved.

wnycollector. Thanks for the tip to Kivaari. I am going to send him the trigger to my SKS-M.

I think the right SKS (+1 on the trigger job) could be worthy of some real mounts and optics, though I intend to do front peeps. ScoutMount.com does very well-regarded rear sight mounts, I'm sure the right scope would pay off huge.

I just picked up an SKS-D via an auction. Once I get it, I will be sending my trigger to Kivaari also.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Playing around with my Norinco, I found that ammo made the biggest difference. With Tech-Sights and Winchester 123 gr. JSPs, 1 inch groups at 65y were very repeatable.

The trigger was fine, so no need for a fix there.

Have several SKSs. One is "bubba'd" up w/scope, bipod, folder, and bayonet. Heavy as lead and stays "parked" all the time. Have never shot targets with any but have hit a floating piece of firewood off a bridge from 100 yds out to 80 yds past and never missed after the first shot. When I have shot at targets(rocks/cans) they have always been excellent. Would not want anyone shooting at me with them.

I haven't spent any time or money fooling around with sights and trigger jobs on mine. With good ammo, it will hit inside a 6" target at 100 yards with iron sights, which is about what I was going for. Russian hollow-point ammo shoots all over the place, but commercial 123gr. FMJ does pretty well. I tried a scope mount that fits on the rear cover one time, but it moved around too much to get a good zero.
