I ran across a Norinco SKS D with the detachable magazine at the local pawn shop when I went to lunch this afternoon. I don't really know much about this particular rifle. The bore was bright and shinny, just a touch of rust on barrel near the hand guard, other than what appeared to be an after market magazine it was in good condition. Asking price $149 out the door? Worth it? Thanks in advance.

If they will let you, run a snap cap through to test function. Even better, put an EMPTY brass case in the chamber to check for rust that may be a major pain to deal with (case will not eject easily if bad). If these check out and your spider sense says ok, the price is great get it today. Cant go wrong.

There's like a billion of those floating around, and initially I want to say yes cuz the price is about half what you normally see them for. But, why is it half what you normally see them for? A detatchable mag isn't original, and I like the top loading originals personally. Norinco has pinned barrel instead of threaded ones; a little cheaper quality. The wood stocks are usually too small for most caucasians. It's probably worth $149, but that ain't saying much, really. If it's an SKS you want, get a nice Saiga. If it's a cheap rifle you want, you'll never see another SKS that low; I never have. I have a Norinco that goes and goes, shoots 4" groups at 100M, and cycles the cheapest surplus I can find. I did get it new, and I do take care of it. I'd say as long as the rust is on top of the barrel, and none inside, damn, that's a good deal for one of those.

That's a good price. The few I have seen for sale were $250+. I believe they are generally liked by their owners.

In some parts of the country you can't get a Norinco SKS (normal) for less than $200. I'll snatch it up.

$190 for an SKS-D is a steal! Hell even for a standard Chi-com you'll be looking for awhile. Be sure to stock up on your AK mags though!

If you don't want it I would love to have it. I sold my "D" a while back and wish I still had it!

I bought mine brand new in 93 for $99, put a detachable mag on it and sold it in 2002 for $350, Put 1500 rds thru it without a hiccup.Only gun I ever sold that I regret. That spike bayonet was awesome. Most everyone I ever showed it to, was more impressed with bayonet than the gun, itself.

SKS D.....as in, it uses AK magazines?

BUY IT NOW! You will be able to at least make a hundred easy dollars by selling it later if you don't like it.

$150 for an SKS-D is a steal. I'd be surprised if there was any rust in the chamber or bore, as they are chrome lined.

You sure it's an SKS 'D' and not just an SKS with a detachable mag? An SKS D takes AK mags. It also has a paddle mag catch similar to an AK's, not the slide back catch on a regular SKS.

Either way, $150 for a decent SKS is a good deal. $150 for an SKS D is a steal. They normally go for $300-350.

Take a close look at it.
I just passed one in a shop last week that was a "conversion" to
AK mags. The gun was moded to take a standard AK mag.
Hell, it might have worked fine, but I don't buy "cob job" guns.
I might do some "cobing" myself, but im not paying for someone elses.

As has been said, if it's truly a "D" and it works, that's a helluva deal - go for it. I don't think Ds were made with pinned barrels.

I went back this morning to check the rifle over after reading through your responses and doing some research myself. It is not a D. It appears to be a Norinco model 56, minus the bayonet and takes detachable SKS duck bill mags.

I have a Yugo already but like the way this one feels much better. Still considering it possibly as a truck gun. Other than the bayonet having been removed it appears to be in pretty good condition. $149 still a fair price for a Norinco?

Thanks again for your input, it really helped!

SKS, NON-D price

Sarge 83--For a "regular" Chicom SKS in good condition, $149 isn't a bad price at all--I'd snap 'er up were I you.

Of course, I'd tend to get the original SKS mag and reconvert it back to what it likes and does best--10-round mag, 10-round stripper clips. But that's me. If the new SKS actually has a duckbill mag with which it works well--that's the big IF--you could leave it like that.

But anyhow, nowadays any SKS in good shape at 1 1/2 C notes is a good deal. Probably resellable at a small profit if you find that you don't like it.
