Hello fellow NC members. Twice this week I've encountered discussions about proposed changes to the NC handgun purchase permit law from credible sources. A local gun shop clerk and NC wildlife officers teaching a bowhunter safety course stated "that's about to change" in terms of the requirement to aquire/buy a handgun "purchase permit" from the Sheriff's Dept prior to purchasing a handgun.
Did a little googling on this....and searched THR...no info out there yet.
I am hoping this will change, as I went through the process last year which included; formal permission request through my entire military chain of command, a formal approval letter from my CO, an interview downtown with the Sheriff's Deputy (wife present), my wife had to confirm that she was comfortable with me owning a handgun, the requisite permit fee, waiting for the permit in a lobby as people were being booked in and out of jail (child was present...didn't expect to have to expose her to that)... What a painful process it was to break through those administrative barriers!!!
Does anyone have any factual information about the possibility of NC repealing the handgun purchase permit requirement? Let's keep our fingers crossed.
