Hey all,

I'm gonna be heading back down to North West Georgia in Walker County memorial day weekend. We'll be there for a week.

Whats still open for hunting? Are there Hogs in Walker county? Are they considered varmits/pests?

I'm trying to figure out what I'll be taking down with me and this of course will dictate what rifles make the trip.

By then, the turkey season will be out.

No game species season will be open.

All WMA's and National Forrests in Walker Co. area will be closed to any type of hunting. Mere possession of an accessible loaded firearm in a motor vehicle will be a violation if on those properties.

Non-game species enumerated in regulations open to year-round hunting; ie:Armadillo, Beaver,Coyote, poisonous snakes, freshwater turtles, mice, rats,... can be taken on private property.

Be aware that Memorial day is a State, and National holiday, and all available L.E. personnel will be out working, especially around and near major impoundments and Trout waters.

A real good time to get encountered by L.E.

Be cautious.

If you have access to private property with feral pigs, you are in luck.
Just be sure to cool the carcass ASAP, as outdoor temps average mid 80's to upper '90's at that time of the year.

Fortunately for you I'm retired now, so you don't have to worry about ME anymore!

But, be aware that there are substantial rewards for information leading to the arrest of anyone violating wildlife reg's, and cellphone coverage is rather good in the N.GA moutain areas.

Hope you have a good vacation.

Thanks for the info Mr. Gestapo. I've got access to lots of private land, but don't know if hogs are on any of it. I've never seen any evidence of a hog in the area, but Walker is sort of large so you never know. Don't plan on poaching, so I wasn't too worried about you, and I'll be walking and driving around with an accessible firearm on my hip in most places but I've got a permit for that.

Stephen, looking forward to seeing your new toys, hopefully mine will have arrived by then too.
