I need to find an outdoor rifle range in Northern Virginia. I live in Woodbridge. I can't find one. I looked in the yellow pages, and at the NRA Range Locator. All the ranges I've found are either not outdoor rifle or are members only. Help me, I need to shoot my WASR-10 outdoors. :( Thanks.

1. I've tried that. Those places are too far away!

2. I specifically SAID that I tried the NRA Locator. You not reading my first post INSULTS ME.

3. The closest public range is ONE HOUR AWAY. WITH NO TRAFFIC. Is there ANYTHING CLOSER?

The Alexandria chapter of the Izaak Walton League has their outdoor range facilities in Stafford. It is located about 10 miles or so west of I-95 on route 610 (Garrisonville Rd.). You are required to be a member.

"Things" may have changed, so call them to confirm --

A person wanting to join needs to attend 2 (consecutive ?) meetings and pay $100 annual membership fee.

There used to be a small-arms range in Lorton, but it has been years since I was last there. It was creatively named Lorton Small Arms Range. Dunno how far that is from Woodbridge.

Take a look at the Northern Virginia Gun Club. I'm not sure how far it is from you, doesn't look too bad.

I've never been there, but here's what they post on their site:
"Ownership of 188 acres in King George County, VA. near Fredericksburg, VA. This site has general purpose ranges, with covered pistol and rifle firing points, from 25 to 200 yards, two skeet fields, a trap field, an archery range, and a camping grove."

Here's a link to their March 2004 newsletter.

Here's a link to the Quantico Shooting Club if you haven't already located it.

Hope this helps.

Yeah. I decided to go to Clark Brothers. It's an hour away, but that's not bad. PLENTY OF TIME TO GET PSYCHED IN THE CAR!!!!! WHOOO-HOOO!!!! ROCK ON!

(My Dad hates it when I get hyper when we're about to shoot or do something gun related. I tend to say ROCK ON alot. Ok, so he doesn't HATE it, but you know. :D )

Thanks for all the help guys. And sorry White Knight, since your post did help me pick out Clark Brothers.

WHOO!!! ROCK ON!!!

You should be aware that Clark's requires that you shoot ammo purchased from them. Their prices aren't atrocious, but you can't shoot your own reloads or the ammo from that super deal you got on-line.

I haven't seen Shooters Paradise mentioned yet. They are right there in Woodbridge (Marumsco Plaza). They only have a 25 yd pistol range, but if that's what you're after, it's in your backyard, so to speak. Very knowledgeable and friendly people run it as well, so that is a plus.

I don't reload/handload. And I don't usually get ammo BEFORE going to the range. I usually buy ammo at the range.

Do they carry 7.62x39mm ammo? If so, I'm set.

And I shoot at Shooter's Paradise. Problem is my WASR-10 AK is WAY too loud there. The heavy noise of an indoor range doesn't help my flinching. Outdoors would be better.

They have a large selection of ammo, so you shouldn't have any problem finding what you need.

I couldn't agree more about the noise of an AK at a tight indoor range! You might try what a lot of us do in that situation - double ear protection. Plugs and muffs. It helps a lot indoors.
