This proud papa is awaiting the delivery of his custom rifle in 7 X 57. (The gestation period of an elephant is quicker than having this rifle built). Anyway, while waiting I've been putting together some trial loads in Norma brass to see if this rifle likes any particular bullet. So far I have bought the following to try: Nosler 140gr partition, Hornaday 139gr BTSP, Hornaday 154 gr RN, Winchester 150 gr power point, Trophy Bonded Bear Claw in 160gr, and Sierra Game King also in 160gr.. I would immagine I will be using this rifle mostly for northern (good size) whitetail. I was wondering if anyone had any favorite bullets in 7mm that they use in the 7 X 57, 280 Rem, or 7mm/08, or something in the non-magnum velosity range that I might try. Thanks for your help.

I cannot claim personal experience here, but I'll pass along what I've heard from two gentlemen with quite a bit of hunting experience between them.
Both of the have 7-08s; one is a Remington Model 7 rifle, the other a custom TC Encore handgun. Both guys swear by the Nosler 140 Ballistic Tip. The Encore fellow took a nice antelope at about 300 yards last year with the 140 BTs.

I have shot 3 thousand at least of the Sierra gamekings 160 grain through a 284 winchester with a 18" barrel over the last 15 years. It makes about what a 7X57 should with a 22+" tube. The bullets are accurate and DEADLY on deer (mule) and elk. If you can stabilize them well you will love the way they work on game. A whitetail, even a monster, is still pretty small though so the 140-150 class bullets are more suited to them.

my favorite 7mm bullets
1- 162 hornady interlock (btsp)
2- 150 sierra gameking (btsp)
3- 139 hornady interlock (btsp)
