That rib cage photo looks pretty much the same as my experience; ....in like a dime, and out like the bottom of a coke can!! 180 grn Ballistic tip in 8mm mauser @ 2600fps on a 150 lb meat deer @ 130 yds, except I hit the shoulder on the way out, helping expansion! That bullet severed the arteries to the heart and destroyed the off shoulder, but resulted in a "bang/flop", = success!!

your right Jeb, any animal taken, in a fair chase hunt is a trophy to me. I would love a trophy rack, but so far that has eluded me, but I am still totally satisfied with my hunts.

how right you are! i have only ever managed to get one buck; an 8-point with just about every tip broken off from fighting. some people would have been dissappointed, but i loved it. HUGE body too! doe, buck, whatever, i just love deer hunting!

I have switched to interbonds because they were on sale, but I'm glad I did because AFTER buying a bunch of them I tested my Nosler BT's and 150 grains from a .308 did come apart very easily. It got the job done, don't get me wrong, but it did so with the deer running quite some distance first. I hit behind the shoulder and was left with no exit hole. If there wasn't anything better out there, I'd be happy to stick with the BT's, and if they shot better in my rifle than the interbonds I'd be fine with them... but in my barrel the hornadys shoot a little better. All that to say, they all get the job done so find what shoots well in your rifle and go with that. (hopefully I'll test the Hornady's on deer this season)

Nah it's basic wildlife management. Everywhere I've been to hunt deer has a doe, spike and 8s or better rule.

By the way I use the Hornady SSTs try shoot great out of my Remington 870 with 24 inch ported and fully rifled barrel

I have tried both in the '06. I have since switched to Partitions. The Ballistic Tips were extremely accurate for me, the SST's were OK, but both bullets will fail to penetrate more than a few inches on close shots. I still shoot the Ballistic tips when hunting out west, but for woods range hunting I think something like a Remington Core-Lokt or Nosler partition is a more reliable performer in the 150gr .30 cal.
Ditto that for me. Partitions are the best and are almost as accurate as BTs in my guns.
