Anyone try out Nosler's HPBT J4 jacket match bullets? I'm interested in knowing whether they go faster or slower or the same as Sierras when you use the same loading data.

Specifically interested in .30 cal 168-gr, but any other reports are welcome.

I'm not certain if they are the same bullet, but I have had good luck with the Nosler Custom Competition 168gr HPBT. Used in an old 1903A3 with appropriate quantities of H4350, these will deliver 10-ring accuracy from 100-300 yards, even on the reduced 600 yard targets. I imagine that you too would be very pleased with the results.

(I'm working on getting to 10-ring consistency. It's not odd for me to shoot 10, X, 9, 5!)

Dunno about comparative velocities with the Sierra's. I used both the Sierra 168 SMK's and the 168 J4's. Using the same powder, charge, primer, and case, I got 15-20% better accuracy with the J4's. I was driving the SMK's at @2700fps, but I never chrony'd the J4's.

I use a lot of the Noslers, 308 and 30-06. I equate them to the smk's: I can't tell any physical difference (exception below), so I assume velocity is the same. And they are a tad cheaper.

The jacket seem to have deeper "creases" than sierras which may be a factor at longer ranges; I am in process of evaluating them at 600 yrds. Stay tuned ...

My latest was a load I've never used wSMKs, do the comparison is missing. They chrono'd 2490 at 75 feet, but that was at 90-95° F., altitude maybe 2500 ft. and humidity less than 30%. Seemed a bit slow for the conditions.

Prior SMK loadings w/ WW748 were always right on the expected velocity. Same rifle.
