I have two (pretty) expensive handguns. I have CCW gear for both, although one is certainly my favorite carry. I have a Sig P226r .40, and a SA EMP 9mm. The EMP is, of course, my fav and most comfortable carry-(in a Milt Sparks VM2).

So, my question goes something like this: Money IS an issue at this point, or I wouldn't even post-I'd keep 'em all and add a new member, but, the way things are...........

Opinion: I'm thinking about trading the EMP for a Glock21, or G36, AND a G19....(TWO Glocks cost about the same as ONE SA EMP 9mm)

Its about a wash, and I keep a compact 9mm for carry, and a powerhouse .45 for HD.

AND-I forgot...I could trade into a Kimber 3" UltraCarry .45 for the EMP. I'll add it to the poll...

OR, I could trade the EMP for a Kahr KP4543 AND a G19, (still TWO for ONE) still ending up with a carry and a smaller cal pistol. I might have to kick in $100 or so, but this can work...)

Or, I could be happy with the EMP, the Sig, and just keep the two. I am just going to start a 250 rd feed with both the pistols I own. My thinking re: Glock, is that they eat everything, and in a time of need, I won't worry about spitting CorBon JHP Defense rounds out fast and frequently. My Sig also fires well, and never misses, but the EMP hasn't been through the drill yet, and it concerns me. I hear that the EMP might choke on anything other than FMJ range shot.

Thanks for the opinion!

PS-I was just reminded that I can trade the EMP for a Kimber UC 3" .45 ... I'll try to add that to the poll. But thats a One for One trade-I think I lose a couple hundred, but can take some ammo to make it up.

I'd keep the sig, trade the EMP for a g36 and a g19. The Kahr has a very strange feel to it. I don't own one, but had the opportunity to fire one last time I was at the range. I put about 25 rds downrange with the kahr and did NOT care for the way it shot although there are others that disagree, I think they're too light in the hand and the balance is wrong for me.

If you ccw, g36 and g19 imo. They both fit 90 percent of the same holsters. G19 has a rail if you want a light for HD, the g36 is like a glock 1911 except it feeds jhp ammo out of the box unlike some compact 1911's.

I have owned or fired both of the glocks and I am a fan personally. The emp is very sexy, but that is a pretty decent 2 for 1 trade if you enjoy the glock platform especially.

There's a gillion ways to make some extra cash. I wouldn't sell my favorite firearm just to raise some funds, ever. I voted to keep them both and become more financially responsible.

Good luck.

Sounds like you are happy with the EMP for carry (just not sure if you trust it) and want something big for home defense:

The EMP is, of course, my fav and most comfortable carry

Forget what you hear on the internets, test the EMP until YOU'RE satisfied it'll run. Then dump the SIG. Take a portion of the SIG sale money and buy a nice but inexpensive pump shotgun and good flashlight for home defense.

Sounds like you are satisfied with your emp, it is reliable and you are comfortable with it. You'll regret selling/trading it for two Glocks of any flavor.

Keep the EMP and buy a used glock 19 when you have the cash saved up. I have a 19, owned a gen4 17. If I had parted with any of my 1911's for them...I'd have regretted it. I wouldn't trade my preferred carry 1911 since I know it works reliably...unless we're trading for enough glocks that I can sell them, buy a new g19 and a new replacement 1911 just like mine.

Sell or trade the sig for a G19 or a G36 and keep the EMP. Sounds like you are comfortable with the EMP and like it. I know I would really like to have a EMP in 9mm, but can't afford one right now.

well, alrighty then........lol

I think I have stumbled onto a successful outcome. I'll know in a week. I'm keeping both handguns. BUT, note that the problem was that after carrying compact CCW's (EMP, Kimber UC2) the Sig felt HUGE! I took it out to clean it, thinking of going to the range, but it felt like I was gripping a stove. I talked to a pal I know at Hogue, and she pointed me to the (relatively) new G10 grips. Eliminates the stock grip backstrap (the G10 is a 2-piece, not a wrapper) and thins down each side-actually a wee bit more than the Hogue Extreme Metal grips.

I'm bettin' that after putting on the G10-'s, I'll remember why I bought the Sig for in the first place.

and, Glocks are cheaper than almost any reliable gun out there, so it would make more sense to save a bit, and ADD the Glock .45 later.
imho, the Sig is just a machining giant, and a fine piece of work, so with the grip-fix, I think it'll be the way to go.

Except for the shotgun you cannot do much better for home defense than a SIG P226 in .40S&W, if it has night sights. If the SA EMP is reliable and you shoot it well then it is a great holster carry pistol. Glock triggers compared to most 1911 platforms are hard to get used to. I have the G34 and it's the lightest trigger pull that Glock offers stock. It is a good shooter but the long trigger pull and reset are disapointing compared to a good 1911 trigger. At a match on Sunday I put 6 of 7 rounds fired into a target that was visable for just over 1 second with the G34. I voted keep what you have, there are options for those of us that are cash challenged. Some options are layaway, financing, or save your change, it is something to look forward to, if you trade or sell one you may be looking back, hind sight is 20/20. Save for your next purchase, I just hope the pistol manufacturer's name does not start with K. Just my opinion...save up for the G19.
