Fox Labs medium fogger OC spray, 2-ounce. Don't spray it upwind.

Also, if you are well conditioned, don't underestimate the utility of the oldest martial art, the Way of the Receding Foot. Running like heck is sometimes the best solution to a potential problem.
 
I second the maglight idea. Decent flashlights, better clubs.

I would rather run at night than in the morning. I dont know how the industry is where you live, but around here a lot of first shift jobs start somewhere between 6 and 7am. Then there's school traffic. Not parents dropping their kids off (well, a few), but long lines of cars with aggravated drivers that got stuck behind a school bus.

I think I'd rather take my chances of getting mugged at night than get hit by a car again.

Yes. I have a six cell. When it was used to break a Louisville Slugger, attitudes were changed quickly, guys ran fast, and a lowrider jumped a curb.

It was beautiful.
 
just for everyone's knowledge, i am male. ive got a maglite so im carrying it and will get a good pepperspray gel. i also carry a smith and wesson knife. as soon as i turn 21 im getting my ccw.

Heres a pepper spray that does work, http://www.counterassault.com/ but be careful. In Montana its illegal to use it on a human. Its designed to stop a full blown charge by a Grizzly, but some states consider it lethal on humans. (probably because its very close to being just that) Check your state laws about these kinds of sprays.

This is the stuff that some friends of ours who did a lot of Geology expeditions in northern Canada used. It indeed does work on bears. Probably would work on a drugged out mugger too, since its a bit more powerful than the tiny canisters that you can buy nowadays.
Unfortunately a grad student with them got separated from the group and a bear chased him into some very cold water, and he drowned.
From then on, everybody was required to carry the stuff, even the students.
This new pepper gel, is supposed to be better than the regular stuff, from what Ive read. The canister is larger however, but still fits in my pocket fine.
 
I am also to young to carry so I know where you are coming from but have you thought about carrying a legal sized pocket knife?
 
In wyoming you have to be 21 to carry concealed too. but there is a provision for the 18 to 21 year olds, that if they go to the sheriff and can get him to sign a letter of recommendation you can get your conceal carry. Good record, not just the court one, but the one the deputies know you by, (you know, oh that jeffery kid is bad news, to bad we can't catch him at something) and a legit reason and you get your permit.
 
I think Tab hit on it best when he stated to be aware of your surroundings. Develop your situational awareness. I'd say a whistle if you're able to get to it in time. I hear Krav Maga is a brutal, take no prisoners martial art. The whole idea behind it is to incapacitate your attacker and remove yourself from the engagement.
 
ya know if you want to move to Montana i'll go with actually have some family up there so we would have a place to stay and maybe jobs at the bar
