Not out of the AWB woods yet...

Since there is talk about a special session of Congress to deal with the recommendations in the 9/11 Commission report, I suspect that we're not out of the woods yet with regards to the AWB expiring.

Therefore, I'm still writing letters to my congressional delegation and to President Bush urging them to allow the AWB to expire. I'm also referencing an online petition for them to read. I believe that I've posted it here before, but in case you haven't seen it, please take a moment to read it. Then, if you agree, please sign it. It was written by Karl T. Murphy, who is a regular at the Guns & Ammo Forum. Here is the petition:

You're a responsible citizen, and I wish we could get more folks like yourself to take a moment to write the poloticians. I personally believe that now we are well into the recess and I have still seen no signs of excess pressure mounting, the ban is as good as dead. But we can't become complacent. So even a reduced light stream of correspondense to the elected officials right up to the end is a good stratagy in maintainig an edge and ultimate victory. Lord knows they are receiving correspondence from the Brady types, and their hearing from our side will help offset it

On that premise, I too was very surprised to know that Arlen Spector voted against the AWB in '94 and the extension of it back in March. And so did McCain. Go figure!

BTW, Spector is on Brady's hit list for November. There's a whole list of pro gun measures that he's voted for that they have listed on their site , and they want to replace him with a Democrat in November that they are backing.

The only reason spector votes pro-gun is if he did not he would be gone.

I took the time recently to write both of my (DEM) senators, and to my surprise actually heard back from both of them. While both senators indicated that they will support renewal of the ban, I was impressed by the fact that they actually took the time to respond. Lincolns reply seemed a little canned, but cannot say for sure. Pryor actually responded to every question and comment in my letter.

Dissapointed that they dont agree, but glad they replied.
